Which one should be at the heart of the defence at the minute when mcmanus is fully fit.

I'll have Mick and Elvis as centre backs, better than having O'dea there. Then put Caldwell in for CL

Well I would imagine that McManus would come back in for O'Dea. The young Irish lad has done very well the past month and has gained some invaluable experience in the first team but I would certainly still see McManus as first choice. At just 19 O'Dea's performances have clearly shown we have another good young player breaking into the first team squad and one who is clearly ready to play at least at the domestic level.

Yeah, I doubt WGS will drop Elvis, when Mick comes back. O'Dea will drop to the bench, and as GuitarBhoy said, Caldwell in for CL games. Bobo will be on the bench when he's fit too.

But back to the question.. I value Mick more than Elvis.

    Some weirdo you are:97:

Elvis is pretty solid but nothing more, can't see him doing good in the CL, whilst Mick has already proven he can do very well on a different level. If Garys back before the Milan match, I'd stick them together, if not we have no alternative excepting pairing Mick and Elvis.

i'd play mcmanus and o'dea and keep elvis as back-up the lad can only get better in my opinion, pressely was only brought in for covering the squad we had not to replace them,

If it were not for the CL game I would make Elvis and Mick 1st picks with Gary putting pressure on them but we need to give Gary as many games as possible so he is ready for CL game. All depends on his recovery. If Gary is likely not going to make the Milan game then we would have to play Mick and O'Dea as much as possbile to get that partnership working. Need to talk to the medical team. :50:

It's a bit of a worry as Caldwell does not look as if he will be fit in time.WGS said yesterday on radio that it will be 4 weeks before he kicks a ball and then has to get match fitness, so he is unlikely. McManus and O'Dea are both left sided so that is another problem and to be honest I don't think O'Dea is ready for the CL.

It is a worry but I would not panic buy a centre back for what could well be two games. If Garry is likely not going to be fully fit then we need to play O'Dea as much as possible with Mick as soon as Mick is fit. Unfortunate on Elvis but thats life. If Elvis wasnt cup tied it would be a very simple choice and a Elvis-Mick partnership would be a good one (lack of pace aside).
