think this is the right place to put this, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong :shamrock:

So i was wondering if anyone on the forum has any tips on how i can lose weight, through them doing it themselves or whatever, I have tried alot, but nothing seems to do much, last year i took up jogging and was jogging about 5 miles every night, not much I know, but to add to that, walking 2 miles in the morning and at night for the school bus, eating healthier, playing football atleast 3 times a week, and none of this seemed to do anything, it just kept me at the same weight for months, but from the start of the new year i have gotten lazier, not playing football as much, stopped jogging (I don't know why cause i loved it), i've left school now so there is not need to walk for the bus, started drinking nothing but irn bru, coke, ect, also the fact that my girlfriend says she doesn't think i'm big makes me think it can't be as bad as it seems but i think it is, and recently i just bought a lash of t-shirts (i'm into mad coloured, baggy t-shirts) so i decided to buy some new ones and get them in XL which some of my tshirts i have in my cupboard are mediums, but these XL t-shirts are nearly skin tight, so yeah, was wondering if anyone had any advise on what i could do?, its starting to get me quite annoyed.

    Cheers :shamrock:

Just keep at the excercise mate * much as you can..as long as you break a good sweat then thats your heart rate going which means you are burning fat... try cut down on eating a lot at night.. & try eat a lot of fibre & not much sugary snacks or drinks & avoid high fat foods such as cheese.. & if you still find your not losing weight then have your GP do tests to see if theres any other underlying conditions you may have ..good luck! :50:

Do better than you did before is a good strategy. So if you don't excercise at all now start by doing it once a week. And if you do not eat healthy start by eating healthy a few days of the week . Just improve yourself little by little.
Loosing weight is a mental game whilst in the same time you are fighting a fat/sugar addiction. It's not going to happen overnight or even in a few months. Take a good long period to focus on. Like a year at least. Set the standard really low and raise the bar only a little each time. Don't expect wonders within weeks/months. Most people tend to give up if they have not reached the desired result within a few weeks or months.

If you think of your daily meals in a pyramid shape with the biggest meal being breakfast and eating gradually less at Lunch and make dinner your smallest meal. Eat breakfast like a king and dinner like a peasant. This allows your body a chance to burn off calories during the day. Eating a lot at night is the absolute worst thing you can do when trying to lose weight.

Also, instead of having 3 big meals, try and eat 6 small ones with around 3 hours in between. This speeds up the body's metabolism.

Try and eat wholesome food, brown rice, beans and pulses, lean meats. Save up the money you would spend on crap for a week or so and buy yourself a nice recipe book. Challenge yourself to try and make something from it every day, even if it's just a nice salad or something. I found that once I got a taste for cooking with decent ingredients and respecting food, I found it a lot easier to turn down junk food.

As has already been said, exercise is vital. Try mixing it up, lift some weights. Give yourself the motivation to pound it out on the pavement by knowing that you'll have muscles underneath when you shed some of the fat.

Take a photo of yourself in boxers and stick it somewhere in your room where you can see it. Every month, take another. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing changes in your appearance as a direct result of changes you have made in your lifestyle. Once you notice little changes, it will spur you on to bigger and better things and you will never look back.

Good luck and stay proud of yourself no matter what chief.

Losing weight is simple. Sometimes it's made out that there's a big secret to doing it but it's really as easy as improving your diet and exercising more.

Improving your diet by cutting out junk, eating more fruit and veg and drinking less.

And just go out for walks, runs or play more sport.

    Edit: Marti-bhoy's advice is good.

    All great advice there bhoys.

also try some weights in conjunction with your jogging. it sounds like your naturally bigger and the weights will help tone and shape your body from the jogging etc. if you cant get to do weights, at night do plenty of sets of seat ups (stomach) and press ups (for chest & shoulders) every few weeks you should add more reps and/or sets.

    good luck buddy

Nobody is naturally fat - its a myth - just like eating at night is worse than through the day - again a myth! If you place yourself in the situation to get fat ie, calorie intake is more than the amount burnt off then you'll get bigger - simples.
Doing weights before any cardiovascular exercise is a good idea because it will stimulate your metabolism which will mean you will burn more calories during the aerobic part.

If you can, try to join a gym. Lift some weights 4 times a week and run to and from the gym. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn when you're only resting, and the cardio will do a world of good. Don't buy into any slim fast or gimmicks like that, all you need to do is eat below your maintinence level of calories per day and live an active lifestyle.

Also, the single most effective excersize to lose weight is HIIT (high intensity interval training) - this is where you excersize in intervals, for example, sprint for 15 seconds and jog for 45 seconds, and repeat that until you feel you can't sprint anymore. You can do this with other things like cycling or excersize bikes too, the idea is basically just a small burst of high intensity giving it your all, then a stately period to catch your breath and repeat.

Not a myth that eating at night is worse. Our genetics are all different, personally if i eat at night i tend to put weight on or at the very least find it harder to mantain shape.

The OP seems to put on weight easier (like some of us) so watching what hes eating and as important what times he eats at.

Like you I believe also weights before cardiovascular could do him good over the coming months.:50:

It's amazing how you could make little changes to your diet which could have a massive impact on your weight.

    • Only have 1 sugar in your tea/coffee
    • Try and get at least 30 minutes exercise each day
    • Cut down your portions, you will be hungry at night but eventually your stomach will get used to it.
    • Don't drink Coke or fizzy drinks, try drink Water if you can or if you can't drink it buy flavoured water or anything low in calories, orange squash is another low calorie drink.
I know what I'm talking about, I was 15 stone at the age of 15 and my diet was * to be perfectly honest, I'm now 19 and 11 stone 3 pounds, lost 4 stone in a year just by eating more fruit and vegetables and for me playing football 4 times a week just meant the weight dropped off.

You don't need these weight watchers *, alot of it is just common sense, I eat really healthy all week but Saturday I go wild, eating healthy 7 days a week will bore you and send you back to your old eating habits, just pick one day where you have a Chinese, Pizza Uno, Cakes, pies what ever YOU enjoy, then you have something to motivate you all week and look forward to, that one day of eating what you like.

The best advice I will give you mate is get out of the house, If I'm in the house, everytime I'm bored I will go in the fridge, I feel hungry all the time, when I'm out playing football I honestly don't even think about food, I play for hours.

People say 'Everything Healthy taste like crap' bollicks, every single person on this forum will really enjoy eating something that's really healthy, what do you have for Breakfast mate? Skipping that isn't good for you and will make you eat even more during the day.

Have a medium size bowl of porridge for your breakfast, if you don't like that have a bowl of High Bran (I love it me) you can go shopping and when you get to the cereal isle, pick something you could eat that's fairly healthy, buy some fruit (Raisins, Kiwi Fruit, Grapes etc) and shove it on your cereal with semi skinned milk and you have a low calorie, really healthy breakfast sorted that's also quite filling.

I know counting Calories is more a woman thing but try keep a rough count of your daily calories, keep below 2000 (apart from that one day you pig out) and keep playing football or anything you enjoy doing that is physically demanding and I personally promise you the weight will come off.

You don't need to let it take over your life mate, just common sense, modiration is the key.

Wow, nice one mate! I was a bit chubby around 12-13 then changed to only drinking diet juice and lost about a stone and a half, the amount of sugar in Cola/Irn Bru would surprise a lot of people! Sugar = Fat.

It's all about how much dedication you want to put in to shift the pounds.
