Xavi: Paul Scholes is the best midfield player of the last 20 years... He would have been valued more if he was Spanish

    Found that.

xavi and iniesta are both super players, who you struggle to compare with anyone in our generation.

however when xavi's actual words were "scholes would have been valued more if he was spanish", then that tells its own story :50:

Just means his passing game would have been more appreciated in Spain. It's not a comment on his ability per se.

I consider Larsson a deity so I would say Scholes is my favourite footballer of all time, a proper legend and it says something that Zidane and Xavi (the only two midfielders better than him during his career) both described him as the best midfielder of his generation. Both comments were made something like 10 years apart, showing his class and longevity.

Really want to head down to Old Trafford for his testimonial in August, absolutely worship the guy.

Is Paul Scholes the English Xavi?

[Xavi interrupts, almost bursting with enthusiasm] Paul Scholes! A role model. For me – and I really mean this – he’s the best central midfielder I’ve seen in the last 15, 20 years. I’ve spoken to Xabi Alonso about him. He’s spectacular, he has it all: the last pass, goals, he’s strong, he doesn’t lose the ball, vision. If he’d been Spanish he might have been rated more highly. Players love him.

Xavi is much better than Scholes was... But Scholes was also world class....just no as good as Xavi, not many are/were as good as Xavi is.

Xavi and Zidane both shade it ahead of Scholes but the three of them are miles ahead of the rest. Apparently Xavi, Messi, Iniesta, Busquets and Pedro all wanted his shirt after the Champions League final, Iniesta got it in the end.

Right good player, picked a good time to retire as his apperances were being limited. Some shocking tackling at times but far out-weighed by his skills and England missed a trick by selecting the likes of Lampard and others ahead of him.

Scholes was, without question, a footballing genius. Of course he had dig in him - its partly that that made him the footballer he was; but the badly timed tackles are a small part of what he should be remembered for. Up until the last few months Scholes was still dominating games for ManUtd, making very good players look average. His ability to spot a pass and then execute with absolute precision made him an absolute joy to watch. Barca class at his peak??? I certainly think so.

a legendary player. sad to see him go but i think it was the right time for him to move on

one of the best passers of the ball i have ever seen. he had a great shot on him and a terrific ability to sneak into the box unmarked to score

a true united great who will be hard to replace

Absolute legend, My favourite utd ever.
Easily the best english player of his generation imo and one of the best in the world, whether it was hitting 40 yard pass on the button or smashing a screamer into the top corner he was always a joy to watch.

Great player and great professional. Good luck to him in whatever he decides to do in the future. I can definitely see him managing United one day, whether it be 10 or 20 years from now.
