i shoulda off course said "was" worn as he died in 2000 & he wore it during the 70s.. it was in support of the same mob your on about --the red brigades RAF.. though he used the italian term on the t-shirt.. the clash also had a minute silence & wore black armbands the night Bobby Sands died ..a great band & a politically sound one too imo.. anyways im going waaay off topic here

Yeah they're pretty deadly and I just checked that and it is the Rote Armee Fraktion. They had pretty dubious political objectives though. Fair do's to him for having a mins silence for Sands :50: The Clash are a left wing band though. Anyway back on topic :icon_mrgreen:

    Good article man.

It is such a striking situation even for folk brought up in Glasgow, and it must seem absolutely crazy to most people in the sporting world.

The major difference to the Seles situation is that the perpetrator there - rightly - met with almost universal condemnation. I guess the exact parallel would be if, in the wake of her stabbing, the majority of newspapers in her country were saying stuff like, "Without condoning the knife attack, you have to say that with her aggressive style, and excessive grunting, she brings this sort of thing on herself." Mental.

Off-topic, was glad to see your team punt Forest out the playoffs there - good luck next Monday...

It is and it's not, it's Brigade Rosse (italian - Red Brigade) an offshoot of RAF. A Marxist revolutionary, anti Nato - group active in Italy in the 70's.

Good read, as mentioned it is a little short and so much more can be said on the issue. However you analysis is more accurate in the article than what the BBC produced with their half an hour programme.

off topic: * or Commies, both are despicable. Trust me, I'm, from country where we had both. In fact communists are even worse because they lasted longer and did atrocities to their own people.

The arctile is very well written, thanks for sharing. Neil is source of inspiration for all people that are in some way discriminated by the majority.

A controversial issue with the club to be honest and one which doesnt seem to be resolved any time soon. Indeed, its become known as a the "flag debate" on our forums and regualrly descends into chaos.

I would say in general there seems to be three views.

the "proud to be british" brigade who are mainly the older men with that "no surrender" right wing mentality which is also what our hooligans attach themselves too, the "proud to be welsh" lot which is a substantial amount and then the "politics and flags shouldnt count, support the swans ffs" brigade which i would say is the majority.

The hooligans have always been British loyalits and have quite a few massive UJ flags around the ground, although this stems from their BNP-mentality and that it winds up the supposed Welsh nationalist Cardiff hooligans. Most of our fans just ignore it but as a Welsh nationalist from rural wales (and we up here hate the Cardiff and Swansea people who have no welsh culture, language, sentiments etc and are just embarrasing) it annoys me greatly. Nothin annoys me more than Swansea being termed a Loyalist club on par with Rangers however.

A small proportion of our fan base and a few obvious UJ's does not speak for our club. Down the stadium there are Welsh nationalist flags, Irish tricolours, Ulster flags, UJ's, Basque flags, Spanish flags. its a mixture but obviously the massive Union Jack gets more attention. Swansea draw a greater support from the nationalistic mid and west wales areas, the Plaid Cymru areas than Cardiff do so to judge us a loyalist club is akin to treason to such supporters as me. i'll let you know if i get any bother on Monday at Wembley when i take my big Glyndwr flag.

Oh right I see, well from a general outsiders view it does seem that Cardiff would have the more nationalistic Welsh pride thing going on thats why I prefer them over Swansea and why I hated Swansea but now I know the facts so I don't mind Swansea anymore :icon_mrgreen: still prefer Cardiff though :56: sorry. Good luck in the final :50:

not being bred in Swansea city itself I hate Cardiff as our rivals but its not completely in-built so i can overlook that, my hate for Rangers is much stronger. Im of the opinion that im Welsh first, Swansea 2nd, which is sacrilage to any Swans fan from the actually City. The hatred between Cardiff and Swansea is very underrated UK-Wide.

Swansea arnt viewed (traditionally), as a Welsh club as our fans have historcially not supproted Wales as they always used to get attacked and ambushed on away trips and therefore mainly give the games a miss now. Wales games are very much the homebase of Cardiff fans, Wrexham fans and general fans with no club allegiances. When I go to Wales games, its very much a "keep your head" down scenario and dont draw attention to accent/club loyalties. Ashley Williams was made welsh captain vs scotland last year and was booed for 90mins by the Crowd at Cardiff City stadium.

But this is by no means the club as a whole. the UJ brigade are just more vocal in their political views than the welsh nationalists in our support i guess
