ST MIRREN manager Danny Lennon is set to agree a permanent deal for on-loan Celtic striker Paul McGowan.

But his bid to land another Parkhead starlet, Graham Carey, will end in failure.

McGowan, 23, has spent the entire season on loan at the Paisley outfit and is now poised to stay with the Buddies for good.

He still has a year of his Hoops contract to run but Neil Lennon has given him the green light to join St Mirren and a small fee could be involved.

However, the Buddies are unlikely to strike a deal for Ireland Under-21 midfielder Carey, who had a spell on loan at the Paisley club two seasons ago.

Carey spent the first half of this term on loan at League One Huddersfield before being recalled by the Hoops in January.

Although the 22-year-old left-sided player failed to play a single first-team game for Celtic this season, he still has a future at the club.

St Mirren have already snapped up former Scotland, Rangers and Dundee United striker Steven Thompson, 32, on a two-year deal.

They now hope to persuade Paul Gallacher, Michael Higdon and Jim Goodwin to sign contract extensions as they plan for next term.

Finally we are starting to trim the deadwood and the youngsters who aren't progressing.

Now for: O'Dea, Hooiveld, Loovens, Cervi, Thompson, McGinn, Towell, Conroy, & Rasmussen.

Towell is just 19 years old and made his debut last season, doubt he will be going anywhere just yet.

Rasmussen... are you mad!? Hes a natural goalscorer and has a brilliant header on him! Scored 6 goals in his last 5 games while on loan at AaB last season! Definetly should keep him!

No. I'm not... Lennon has obviously seen this guy in training and in matches for AaB, Celtic & Mainz, but still there is no mention of a future for him at Celtic.

Also he had the chance to bring him back into the squad in January when we were reportedly looking to sign a striker, but didn't

He has hinted that the loaned players will have to find a new club. So I'm going to trust his judgement on this one.

Granted Rasmussen has the potential to be a goal scorer. However from what I've seen of him he wouldn't fit into the current side and doesn't work hard enough off the ball.

Would rather a new striker was brought in instead of wasting our time on giving Rasmussen a 2nd chance.

In February 2011, Rasmussen signed for Danish side AaB on loan from Celtic after his loan spell with Mainz was cut short.[24] He did not score any goals in his first five league matches for AaB in the league, but he scored six goals in the following five, including a goal against former team Brøndby.
