Yeah but what has politics got to do with football  Let's face it guys it's getting boring :87: A lot of us are not even remotely interested in these songs. Folk songs are another matter entirely but as someone suggested perhaps people need to think about what they're singing. People say that we're not as bad as Rangers on this score but I beg to differ. They have an element who will never give up sectarian chanting and we have an element who will never give up political chanting. Both groups say they will do what they want irrespective of what anyone tells them..........so where do we go from there. They're harming their club just as surely as PIRA chanters are harming ours.

People are entitled to whatever political views they want sure, but is Celtic park the place for it, is it a political forum?

A lot of people give it this and that about how much they care for the cause and how much it means to them to make their voice heard, just not enough to organise something in their own time though eh? Shouting UP THE RA at the football is about as big a contribution some (not all) people make. Really doing your bit there.

I don't like seeing the club used as a vehicle for this kind of thing, especially when we're supposed to be club open to all regardless of race, religion or political views. Do we have to put an addendum to that? All races, religions, as long as you're an Irish Republican.

To say we are "just " a football club really insitites me.

We have a history. A history I am proud of, and forever will sing of.

The add ons is certain songs has to STOP. Simple answer. This does not help our great club. As a proud Irish man these chants do not help anyone. It gives the kuckle draggers an excuse to slate my great club. I've already told supporters at away grounds to stop shouting these chants. The rebel songs are fine without the add ons. Also any Political banners please keep them away from our games.

That's the bit that troubles me as I'm neither Irish or Catholic and I'm starting to feel that as a supporter my voice isn't being heard.

Ok ill change that then.we are a football club.I'm not saying don't sing your songs but if you continue to sing political songs about irelands history ends up with Celtic being made an example of and docked points then we all suffer.

If Celtic park wasn't the place for a political forum, then why all the * about the poppy thing?

We are EXPECTED by the SFA & media to wear poppies.

If we don't then we are lambasted by the press.

Its not right for you to look at one side, see their point of view (however prdominant it may be) and tow the line whilst condemming others.

thats just * for tat school ground mentality though. Im fully aware of Celtic's history Brother Walfrid a catholic priest formed a club to raise money for charity, that charity wasnt to glorify the IRA, at the same time Hibs were formed in near exact circumstances yet their fans dont sing pro IRA songs from the stands. This problem comes from the west of Scotland and from Ireland, be proud of your heritage i have no objections but see your football team as a football team nothing more nothing less.

I admit ive been to Eire-og, Wolftonnes and the rest of them sang the songs but NEVER once have i sang them in 20 years of going to the matches apart from once when i was reprimanded by the priest that sits in front of me every week when i was 12. He said to me 'Celtic was made in peace there is no need for that what would the Brother think' them words have rang in my ears for 19 years since.

Well times have moved on and if we don't change to some degree we get left behind. I for one am sick of politics and religion as they're both meaningless to me. I go to football because I love the club, manager and the team. I am a football fan no more no less. There are too many wannabees in our support and I've heard Irishmen on here over the years who have lived the troubles express disquiet

I' am no Spring Chicken myself but I've never been comfortable with people singing support for any Terrorist group at a sporting event.
If people feel the need to sing these songs then head down to Glasgow Green on the 12th of July and give it waldy along with the other lot.

Stopping the Pro-Ira songs has nothing to do with Rangers or what they think or the * that our Boss is currently going through. It has everything to do with Celtic and the support. We are a great great club and fom time to time throughout the years we may have to look at ourselves and make some changes. Most supporters think that the pro-ira songs need to stop, whether we individually believe in the cause or whether you or I think we should continue to sing those songs or not. Most fans now feel that the songs for the ira have no place is this modern era. If we dont evolve in the modern era and continually sing these pro-ira songs then i feel it will always tar us and might eventually cost us our club. We should make the change for the good of the club...Scotty

In an ideal world yes but it just isn't going to happen.

    I don't really give a * tbh.

I just want to see Celtic win everything going. Instead of worrying about what the Scottish Sun thinks.
