    ive seen people hit people with bottles and get a slap on the wrist etc. i dont excuse what the idiot did but the crime does not fit the time. if this was worthy of 3 month in the jail then most huns should be locked up for life.

    I hope this guy never sees the inside of Celtic Park again. We do not want rascists amongst our support. There are no "buts" in my statement. I don't care what the Sassenachs supporters get away with. Guys like this make me sick, and I'm glad he's gotten time for this vile nonsense.

    I think you're confused on this. El Hadji Diouf was charged and found guilty of assault for spitting on the Celtic fan at Parkhead.

    3 months in jail? Very harsh indeed.

    Perhaps in the heat of the moment (and the build up of hatred of Diouf), the fella gave him the ultimate insult. We so not know what kind of person he is, or if he is a 'true rascist' or not.

    a fine, community service and a ban from CP would have suffieced.....now the taxpayer is going to have to find his pointless stint in the pokie.

    I * hate racism, and have been active campaigning against it.

    Still, I can't help but feel this is some Sheriff deciding to make an example of an easy target - a stupid wee working class kid that no-one's gonna kick up a fuss about.

    A judge who was trying the case on its own merits would have noted that - although the abuse was racist in its form - the primary motivation was not racist. I.e. he wasn't abusing Diouf because he was black - he was abusing him because he was Diouf. There are plenty of examples of racist behaviour far worse than this, and behaviour springing from purely racist motives, that don't result in jail terms.

    My thoughts exactly.

    As a result of the build up of sheer hatred to this vile monstrocity, I genuinely think he gave out the ultimate insult (subconsciously), although the connotations of the gesture look rascist.

    What the guy did was disgusting, he is an idiot and no one can defend his actions.

    The punishment, however, is heavy handed and I would bet that would be an opinion shared by the majority.
