It's amazing the amount of stick Samaras is getting. He missed a penalty, so what? You weren't all slagging him off when he scored a double against the huns earlier in the season were you?

Samaras wasn't outstanding or anything today but he was our best striker. He's possibly been one of our best players in all the old firm games overall. Imagine if Samaras read half the * some people are saying. Time to get behind him and every player in green and white.

Actually I was slagging him off. I'm not fickle. I've always believed he's poor. Too slow mentally, too greedy, too stupid. I knew he'd miss the penalty because I knew which way he'd go and if I knew that you can sure as * bet that McGregor knew where it was going.

The most annoying thing about it though isn't the penalty miss it was when he blasted over instead of playing Stokes or Brown in. Giving Weir an excuse to dive when he's got him trapped in a corner by sliding in like an idiot and making the ref's decision easy for him.

Penalty misses can be excused. Sheer incompetence cannot.

I thought he played pretty well today to be honest, hung on to the ball really well up top and put some great tackles in, but Commons should have hit the penalty.

We don't do nearly enough from set-pieces and it's often down to inconsistency of corner/free kick/penalty etc taker.

We have plenty of backroom staff and it needs to be sorted out, players are fighting over every set-piece.

Just calling it as I saw it mate, I thought the guy played pretty well, shouldn't have hit the pen though.

Some people will never stop slagging the guy

he's not even may favorite player (prob Kayal at the moment but that's an easy choice) but i'm constantly defending sammy as I hate seeing players scapegoated

SKippy - took worse penalties than that one (in an old firm no less)
    Naka- missed penalties
    Jan - missed penalties
    Mcgeady - missed penalties
Robson - missed maybe one (but overall was fantastic at them)
    Hooper - has missed PKs
    Stokes - honestly don't know

that's every striker and PK taker we've had in recent time that i could think of and in all that time we haven't had a perfect one save maybe Robson.

    But let's crucify sammy

and before you say sammy did it on the biggest stage: McDonald missed one in the same fixture in 2008 (after Cuellar punched clear what woulda been Naka's second in his most dominant OF game) only for a last second goal to bail out Celtic's season. Prob one of my favorite all time games that one

I know you're a big defender of Samaras but it's not even about the penalty. The penaly is just the icing on the cake.

The guy contributes little. I know you dont agree but for me he's * awful. Makes the wrong decisions all the time. I've never seen a player that frustrates me as much as Samaras. My patience has run out. I'll take Stokes over Samaras all day.

To be honest I thought the only player that had a bad game was Hooper, who was rightfully hooked.

Find it hard to fault anyone else.

I think you can put your mascara away Ross. Looks like Broony isn't going to hit the 10 goal mark, pity. That would have been hilarious :56::50:

There are about ten people on this board that are simply rabid waiting for Samaras to make a mistake to pounce on. I have just gotten to where I ignore them.

3 goals in 36 games under Neil Lennon.

    A Celtic striker .. a Celtic number 9 ..

    3 goals in 36 games.

Sorry guys, but you just can't defend that. Not good enough for us unfortunately.

It's not that any of us want Sammy to fail (I think I can speak for everyone when I say that.) But he's a useless waste of space who costs the club a fortune. I would love to see him rattle in several goals a season but that aint gonna happen. Now we are stuck with him for 3 more years and no one is going to come to Celtic with a decent offer. I can't believe an earlier poster mentions Sammy and McDonald in the same breath. McDonald may have missed a penalty or 2 but he more than made up for that with 20+ goals a season. Was he not our top scorer when he left?

    ludicrous.

all players above were far, and i mean far, more consistent than Samaras has ever been. they contributed with more goals than Samaras and performed better than Samaras in Old Firms, that's even including Nakamura.

Give me JVoH, McDonald and Stokes up front over Samaras any day of the week.

he's not being slaughtered for the pen miss. it's because we all expected McGregor was gong to save it as soon as Samaras put the ball on the spot. that and the fact the only thing he is consistent is his inconsistency and bad decisions. just look at that break when he had Brown on his right and Stokes on his left. that is Samaras in a nutshell.
