Ever looked into guitar tabs? That's probably easiest way to start to learn. Found this tab for the song 'One' by Metallica. Tabs show you what string to play, what fret to play and what order to play the notes without having to be able to read sheet music.

    e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    b|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    g|-------------------------------------------------------------------------0-|
    D|----4-----0----------4-----0-------------4-----0------------4-----0-------|
    A|-2-----2------------------------------2-----2------------------------------|
    E|-------------------3-----3------------------------------3-----3------------|

A good idea is to get a poster with the chords and scales etc and stick it on the wall next to where you play, get one out Hmv for 3 quid. instead of having to keep looking up a specific chord its their whenever you need it. Helped me hugely. Also if your learning from a tab make sure you have the music on at the same time, that was a big mistake i made when first learning. Dont get disheartened if you still sound crap after a while, takes a good while to learn to play anything properly. I remember me and my friends got guitars and the same time and they all packed it in after a few weeks because they thought they were naturally bad at it.

If you google the song you want to learn with like chords or tab after it, you'll get a lot of links with tabs/chords

Tabs are dead easy to learn... its literally just which string to play and the number corresponds with which fret to hold.

try to get a guitar than you dont have to press really hard down on the strings. I held up my progress in playing with my first guitar because it was basically a crap cheap guitar that was near impossible to hold down bar cords etc.

I learned a alot by playing with the bands I liked, (oasis back in 98). was a wee white song bok, they do ti for loads of bands its' like learn (band name) in 6 chords. Was class.
And you can get anything oy want online from tabs, chords and online tutorials.
    Google has it all. Everybody ahs their own way of learning. You just need to find a band/song that you are really interested in. Learn a few chords ( can't fail with G, C & D) and pick a song you really like. Here's a couple fo songs that are really easy to start with;
Time of your life - Billy Joe (green day)
    Songbird (Liam Gallagher)
Fields of Athenry (in G. which is a good few Irish songs btw.)

That's jsut a few songs that are pretty simple to play if you learn the basic G, C and D.

    My advice:

Start with the Chords A,D and E. They're pretty easy to learn. Then learn A7th, D7th and E7th. Just involves removing one finger from fret board. Then learn A minor, D minor and E minor. That involves moving only one finger from the basic chords. I would then suggest simply going from chord to chord to work on your co-ordination.

That will allow you to play most rebel tunes as they are rarely too sophisticated. From there you can start adding in other chords as you feel comfortable. C, F and G as well as the variants (7th and minor) is the next step.

Get yourself onto Youtube and search for guitar tutorials. There will be thousands upon thousands. Some good, some crap. That should give you a visual guide to what you need to do.

Play songs you know. More accomplished musicians can pick up sheet music and play it exactly as it's meant to sound but when you're starting out you'll have to rely on knowledge of the tune to work out if you are * up.

    Good luck!

you can buy tab books of complete albums of bands you like from any music shop, you really need to put the hours in though, practising, avoid barre chords until your fingers gain strength, learn the CAGED chords, travis oasis and foo fighters have really easy songs for begginers to learn
