Rottenrow Hospital, Southnitshill first house. luxury 2 bedroom tenement with attached Veranda looking onto the luxury tenement building facing it with attached veranda's. :86:

Wouldn't have changed it for the world, broke my heart leaving it.

Then emigrated to sunny Belfast. Paradise, love it.

One question. Who, and why would call a hospital The Rottenrow
Its raised many an eyebrow when needed to produce a birth certificate in Belfast.

    Rottenrow like??? Sick *.:54:

The hospital was called the Glasgow Royal Maternity Hospital....the street it stood on was Rottenrow....the hospital became known as "the Rottenrow"...a nickname we Glaswegians bestowed upon it.

The origin of the street name Rottenrow is subject to debate....
Gaelic translation means "Road of the King"
but some folk think it may just mean a row of run down houses infested with rats!! "Raton row" :celt_2:

Cheers mate, quite a history lesson there and a long sought after explanation.

I'll take the "Road of the king" as my theory, cheers again :50:
