my father was always a celtic fan as was my grandfather, now i've passed it onto my son.I suppose donegal is a hotbed of celtic fans as is leitrim where my mother comes from.I also think celtic means a lot to the irish because of it's history and has become a mecca for the irish living in scotland and england,i live in kent now and the club has a shared identity with many irish men and women down here even if they are born in ireland like myself or first and second generation ir,some who've never set foot in scotland or ireland

You got it right SacramentoBhoy. Celtic is a culture. Celtic chooses you. You are born into it.

The great thing about Celtic is that you always feel part of a community, no matter where you end up in the world. Up until a few years ago living in England I wondered if there were any Celtic fans outside of my family, but when I discovered pubs I realised that Coventry has many Celtic fans, and that you never feel like you are on your own.

Like others in this thread I was born into a Celtic supporting family. I'm slightly different in the sense that I have a season ticket at my local club (Coventry City) but my passion for the Celts is unquestionable. My family often tell me that the only good aspect about growing up in Glenboig was the fortnightly pilgrimmage to Parkhead. Celtic are, and always will be, in my blood.

My dad who is Middle Eastern moved to Glasgow in 1982, he always tells me about his first Celtic game and absolutely loved the jungle and felt totally accepted. He always tells me about how wonderful the celtic culture is. Fan ever since. :shamrock:

my old man grew up in stewarton, ayrshire. he started off supporting aberdeen(dont know why). he then joined the army and travelled the world...when he came back from the army celtic were not winning many games but he was so impressed with there style of attacking football that he went to watch them a couple of times and got hooked on the bhoys, this is why i support the grandest team of all.

thank * he turned, i might have been a sheep lover.:84:

I pretty much said it in my welcome post. But Im an American born fan. I have family in the north of Ireland who I visit basically every year and.... I knew about Celtic for years, had their away jersey from about 10 years ago(I think).
Never really watched football before, played it probably from age 6-14 but never really saw any matches and to be honest they are basically never played on TV here until recently. And now without an expensive package all you can see is limited UEFA, World Cup and MLS Playoffs.
Then last year I started playing Gaelic Football over here. So I got Setanta, which carries Gaelic football games. And I caught an Old Firm game. After I saw one I slowly became addicted to the Celtic football and Celtic way of life.

Too bad all my friends who follow football here all follow other European Teams. Manu, Liverpool, Porto, and Chelski etc... Made one of my scouser friends 2nd favorite team be Celtic though :celt_2:

    Sorry for rambling on incoherently....
