John Hartson and Fernando Ricksen sharing POTY story!

ONE of the more light-hearted stories in Hartson's compelling life story centres around the day he learned he was sharing Scotland's Player of the Year crown with Rangers rival Fernando Ricksen.
Hartson and the Dutchman were honoured at the end of the 2004-05 season at a glitzy dinner in Glasgow. But Hartson recalls in his book how he was stunned when he received a phone call from Ricksen days before the event.

He said: "I'd just got into my car after training and was driving home when my phone went.
"No number came up on the screen and I flicked it on to loudspeaker.
"I heard a guy on the other end of the line saying, 'Hi John, this is Fernando Ricksen'.
"I'd never spoken to Fernando before but he said he had got the number from the switchboard at Celtic Park.
"He went on to say in a thick Dutch accent, 'I can't believe that we're sharing this trophy - I'm a much better player than you are'.

"I was taken aback a little by his arrogance and said something like, 'Well, I'm not going to disagree with you but I did score 30 goals this season, Fernando'.

"The next thing I know he's saying, 'I'm going to be back in Holland for a lot of next season.

"'How would you feel if I had the trophy for 10 months and you had it for the other two?'

"That said, I didn't have a problem with it and thought if it meant so much to him then he could just keep the thing for a year, but he wasn't letting it go.

"The next thing I know he's saying, 'It's a joke that we are sharing this trophy. I had a much better season than you and I'm a much better player'.

"That's when I lost it. I had been pretty understanding up until that point but I could feel my blood boiling and I flew into a rage.

"I said, 'Why don't you just eff off. I can't wait until the next time we play you. I'm going to kick you all over the park'.

"At that point I just heard someone bursting out in laughter at the other end of the line.

"It was Alan Thompson all along, phoning me from the hands-free kit in his car."

Oh thats right i forgot he was even still at Parkhead LOL. If Hartson would just have started the story with "Alan Thompson" then said nothing else that would have been much funnier.

That is a classic story. Had me going too I must admit.
On an aside lets lay off Alan Thompson. He may only be a reserve player now but he served us well and scored some cracking and very important goals for us against the huns, in Europe and in league and cup. I for one don't forget some of those great days his goals and all his service into Larsson from the flanks gave us.

he's also one of the best celtic players to pull on the jersy in the last 30 years.

if he had've been looking out of parkhead when he couldn't get a game a lot of you so called fans would've been slating him.

just can't please some of you.

    hail hail thommo, great prank.

football fans are very fickle it's easier to coat a player than give a player praise for what he did give celtic in his time, funny enough the same sort of * was said about BBJ and now he's gone all of a sudden he's the man.BBJ is a legend and always was and thommo was a very good player and scored excellent goals and gave us some very valuable goals and should at least be given the respect he's due
