MICHAEL DAVITT PLANTED THE TURF AT CELTIC PARK

I NEVER KNEW THIS UNTILL TODAY

The sod of turf that sits in the centre circle of Celtic Park was planted by Michael Davitt, himself a famous Irish Republican activist who fought against British rule in Ireland.

Well the penalty spot at the Jock Stein end is actually made from loads of poppies chained together and painted white. :icon_mrgreen:

That is why we have the 4 leafed clover? shamrock as our crest badge before it was the Celtic cross, so it is in our history, but lots of fans don't read history:celt_2:

Yeah I think most people know this. Remember though he was very against and fought hard against violent republicanism by this time.

In The Rosses area of Donegal (part of The Donegal Gaeltacht) there is a plaque on a dry stane wall beneath a large Celtic FC flag, stating that the first sod of turf for the new stadium was cut from this field by the then club captain Paul McStay. Just round the corner is a pub (Rosses Bar possibly) where you will be greeted by a room full of Celtic FC. memorabilia, including a life size cardboard cut out of a certain Swedish striker. !!!
