I grew up in a bad neighborhood in brooklyn so I was used to defending byself, I could usually count on a few friends to back me up but since I was alone I was lucky I was armed because they could have very well killed me

I was lucky that I was still on active duty and had just finished up my jump training when I was allowed to go hom for a month. If I was inactive I wouldnt have had my weapon with me but since I was still reporting into Fort Hamilton in brooklyn I was required to carry my sidearm

I think what you did was valid. Regardless what a justice department clerk would say about it. I wish we had these rules of self defence in my country because when you get robbed or they break into your house you can't do much but ask them to please go away. If you start to use real violence you are in trouble here which is nuts.
