    Bit offbeat, perhaps, but for me its gotta be Twin Peaks.
    Perhaps not a strict crime drama, as there are so many other elements to it...

    Having said that, could not shows like Sopranos or Underbelly etc be considered 'Crime Dramas'?

    Yeah, I'm sure they do. Man, Underbelly was good first series, then I didnt like the first episode of the second series and didnt like it so lost interest

    csi new york is the best of the csi's in my opinion. mac is cool as a cucumber. although horatio from miami is pretty legendary with his one liners.

    Why so many low-quality american series in the list?

    Standard of UK crime drama is generally much higher - with honourable exceptions like The Wire.

    Cracker would be up there for me, as would early Taggart, and the Rebus stuff.
    For period crime stuff, Poirot. Inspector Morse had its moments too.
