Never liked Lou Macari - seems a bit of an egomaniac

Yes, I'll admit that that is a possability but I don't think Tommy would have stayed silent about it if were true. I certainly don't believe that Tommy was responsible for the release of Shay Given and my recollection of that time has clouded over the years but the fact is that Macari has always been blamed for this debacle and i hve been his biggest critic for it.
I have never heard a single story either then or since from anyone at Celtic or in the press to contradict the theory that it was Macari who let Given go...not even from the "rumour mill". Also, knowing what we know of Tommy himself[as someone who has never spent a single second in his company] I get a feeling that Tommy may have come clean about this later on...especially since Macari has taken so much flak over if for years.

No, I don't believe this story for a second...even if Tommy didn't rate Shay at the time [which I doubt] I believe it was Macari who let him go because Burns wasn't in a posision to do anything about it at the time.:54:

This is about something that happened 16yrs ago, written in the Sunday Mail for * sake. If the Mail said it was raining I'd stick my head out the window to make sure. Their track record for truth is comparable with their sister rag the Record....a notorious hun worship rag.

The fact Given was released should not be an issue today. Yes he turned into a top class keeper but that's not to say that if he'd stayed with us he'd have turned into the same keeper. People need to bear that in mind.

Another thing people should bear in mind is that Macari, for all his faults is an ex-Celtic man and should not be subjected to the sort of abuse he's getting in here. Some of it is a * disgrace and I don't think for a minute Tommy Burns would condone some of the comments in here :38:
