doesnt bother me at all, yes i dont like being associated with them but when the huns have caused riots etc and its branded as "old firm fans", then surely everyone will understand that its JUST rangers fans, as why would celtic fans be in amongst rangers fans causing trouble with them? i let remarks like 'old firm fans' go over my head in those situations and chuckle at the repercussions that will come the huns way when things like that occur.

doesn't bother me, to me it's just celtic and rangers. if people want to use "Old Firm" thats fair enough to me.

1 question how exactly did the term old firm come around anyway?

Not sure but I don't think it was a Glasgow thing.. Might be wrong but I think it was because both clubs had a stranglehold on the trophies at the time..
Once Dundee United and Aberdeen emerged as league winners in the 80's the "new firm" was the label given to them because it looked like they'd be challenging each year.. I think it stems from the success the clubs had..

Agree with quite a few points others have made.

I feel it's a word that should only be used as the name for the derby fixture.

However, it's best we just drop the tag all-together if possible, every-one I know who doesn't support either Celtic or Rangers, refer to us like we come in a package with that vermin. When actually both clubs couldn't be more different.

agree 100%, the tag is used to label us in with them and ruins our reputation. We are a football club in our own right, and a * fine one at that.

The term old firm is used round the world to describe celtic and rangers however i think most football fans are intelligent enuff to know we are 2 completley differet clubs we have the best supporters in the world were as they are a bunch of inbred trouble making * so in this case it dosnt bother me

See I like the term when talking about the football match but very much dislike it when it's used as 'An Old Firm Player' etc...

Its just a name! my mates would say to me "Ah donal isnt the old firm comin up on sunday?" and all. The reality is most people dont think about it that much and just use it as a name for the derby and i dont think about saying it though i do say "Celtic and rangers" qlot aswell! So relax lads just a name.

I don't particularly like being linked to Rangers in any way but I do use the tag all the time.

I think it's very powerful in marketing, especially when it comes to selling Celtic to potential sponsors. I guess it must be more of a pull to them if they get 2 teams for the price of one (probably not exactly true but not far off) even if this includes Scotland's shame as one of those teams.

Advertisers probably don't care what a club represents generally (there are exceptions like Barcelona, etc) - all they want is as much exposure for their buck as possible regardless of the values of the club.

So to advertisers the term "Old Firm" is probably a great thing, and that converts into more money for us hopefully.

In practice anyone who knows anything about football world-wide knows that we're polar opposite clubs and that's why we have this rivalry. If anything it could even be a GOOD term for our profile, if we are the anti-bigot, the anti-rioters, the anti-Rangers.

We don't have to but we do and we will continue to. Why is it not a good term when we can identify ourselves as the huns biggest enemy, seeing as they are one of the scummiest teams in football?

Rightly or wrongly words can take on a lot of power and be used to twist things to something they are not. So for me I make a point of never using the above term. We are Celtic and have absolutely nothing in common with the racists at Ibrox

Our official site never uses it, not even to describe the derby. And that’s the way it should be.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
R*ngers are a club synonymous with white hoods, burning crosses, straight armed salutes and swastikas.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
Never equate us with them. There is no comparison. <o:p></o:p>

I voted no and I think my signiture quote I use says it all. I would never disown my children, short I think of murder or something like that but I have to be honest and say, that apart from that the one thing that would hurt me more than any other is that if they supported THEM! Gay or straight, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Labour, Tory, partners of other races or nationalities or whatever.

The only thing I have ever felt for them is the purest form of abject hatred and I don't think I'll ever change!
