I read in todays daily rangers online that Lawwel has told MON to get te f*** about Petrov cause we need him for the champs league. Imo i think we should get all the cash we can get from the greetin face and use it to bring players that actually want to play for the club.

What do you bhoys and ghirls think? Am i just talkin raphael shciedt?

A lot of people have said before that we should just sell him and let him move on so we can get others in but time it ticking on and if we sell now it will be a * of a battle getting players in. I think the board would rather keep Petrov now and work on targets for next summer/January when Petrov can leave and new players brought in.

Personally, I would rather keep him so that we can find the right replacement for Petrov - not a quick fix.

    Petrov is going nowhere

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell insists Stilian Petrov, a target for a number of Premiership sides, is going nowhere. The
Bulgaria international Petrov handed in an official transfer request at the end of last season, which was rejected.
But, after the recent appointment of former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa, the 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a possible deal which could see Juan Pablo Angel move in the opposite direction.

Blackburn, Fulham, Middesbrough and Portsmouth have also all been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder over the summer, but the Celtic chief insists Petrov is not for sale with the Champions League on the horizon.

Lawwell said: "It is very simple - we do not want to sell him.

"As for Angel, that is somebody putting two and two together - there has been no discussion about that.

"I repeat, at this stage in the game, we do not want to sell Stilian.

"We want to hang on to him. We want him for the Champions League and we want to strengthen around him. That is where we are at."

But the Parkhead chief executive has confirmed his interest in Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen after his agent, John Sivabaek, claimed the ex-Everton man was "warm" on the idea of moving to Glasgow.

Lawwell told the Daily Record: "There is nothing more I can say other than what Sivabaek has told has already told you.

"The guy likes Celtic but that is not to say we will get a deal done.

"There is a responsibility for us to spend the fans' money properly but Gravesen is keen, he likes Celtic and we will wait and see what happens.

"It is good to know we are still in with a chance, but I do not want to say any more at this stage."

That sounds promising on both counts Paddy.....The board wanting to keep Stan and that talks are at least taking place with Gravenson and he is at least considering a move to Celtic Park. Would be great if both became reality. C'mon the Board!!! (lol)

We wouldnt be able to replace Stan before the window closes with a a quality attacking midfielder for £5-7M, imo. Gravesen being a def mid like

Stan has been playing well with us because he is professional. He'll get on with the job. His * agent has been kept quiet for the last while too.

Agreed! We can sell him next season for the same money and have more time to sort out his replacement.:50:

He has looked a lot happier recently and has been one of the stars this season. I'm hoping to keep him for now.

Maybe GS has told Stan the possiblitys of players coming to Celtic and Stan likes the idea+he may think the bhoys might go far in the CL as Anything can happen in Football! Remember bhoys+ghirls Strachan has already brought in Jarosik so maybe Stan likes playing alongside Jarosik coz his commitment to Celtic is 100% coz you can see by the way Petrov is Playing and hopefuly it continues with the tranasfer deadline fast appoarching lets hope Celtic can get another 2 players in at least Striker+A DECENT LB ffs

You've hit the nail on the head. It's all about that b@stard Tony McGill. He's always unsettling our players. It was he who brokered the new deal for Stan at Christmas and then he's the one telling the world that Celtic should be letting him go.

    here's my guess............

GS or PL have had a word with Stan and told him the logic of the situation. They've also spoken to MON. It would have went something along the lines of 'Stan, you're in the CL pot 2. Stick around and see how things are in Jan. If we're out of Europe and depending on how we are in the league, you can go. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain by staying another five months.'..........'Martin, we don't have anything suitable now but come back in Jan and we might be able to look after you with some surplus quality mechandise'.......lol

An what about the league and cups, do you think we'll have them won by january or something?

To which MON acknowledges GS's sense of humour and replies with "IF your out of Europe and depending on where you are in the league remember i can always find a place for you at Villa as kit-man....Oh and you can bring your 'surplus quality merchandise with you' ". :celt_2:

I am still convinced he is going nowhere.

Strachan of all people will be one who will be angered at the way signed contracts are abused these days and for someone who wanted out of Aberdeen when he was there and continued on to win silverware, he is probably showing Stan the way it is.

Now Stans performances have been the best amongst all out players in the opening 3 games, now whether he is upping his tempo to show potential buyers what they are getting or he still is willing to compete for Celtic is something we must take a risk on in my opinion.

He must not be sold whilst under the length of contract he is in just now.

    We need him too much.
