I think to win this league it will be entirely dependent on the Old Firm games (as always) but more so this year. I can't see us or them dropping many points this season and I think this will be one of the highest point winning seasons we have had since MON!

I think both us and Rangers have probably improved our team. The Celtic team are alot bigger and more aggressive so it will be harder for the weaker teams to take points off us and we all know Rangers playing for 1-0 wins at home to Kilmarnock and all that pish!

Maybe they will suffer coming into the business end of the season if they sell or don't buy in jan but I think it will be very close.

I think it's a blessing in disguise that we didn't get in the Europa League as we would have had to play all our games on Sunday so there was more pressure on a new set of players to win if the Huns had won on the Saturday!

I personally think we will need 90+ points this year!

    How many do you think?

I think anything over 85 should do us the trick, cant see us dropping many points at home, maybe a few draws away from home but i think we should win the league by about 5/10 points ( hopefully )

TBH, I think this is a total fallacy.

Winning the SPL is very rarely about Old Firm games - it's the points dropped against minnows that ultimately decide the title. The league is won and lost on dreich sundays in Dunfermline and Kilmarnock - it's the teams that can motivate themselves for these games that end up champions.

Consistency is the key, hopefully europe will take it's toll on the huns, the old firm games are mainly for the bragging rights..................:50:

Sorry mate, but I can see both sides of the OF dropping a good few points, I hope we dont drop too many but I dont think it'll be as simple as it should.
I think maybe 80-85 should see us there.

Over the last five seasons, the average points total for the 2nd-placed team has been 79 points. Based on that, somewhere in the low 80s should be enough to win it.

I also think we will need 90+ points to win it. I think it will be nick and tuck
right up until the end of the season and I wouldn't rule out goal difference. The January transfer window may also be crucial, as we may have to make adjustments.

Since the league split was brought in about ten years ago, there's only been two years when over 87 points would have been needed to win it. I don't see where folk are getting this 90 points plus thing from. It's not likely, especially considering Rangers are skint, and we have totally rebuilt over the summer and are in transition.

I totally agree with this, If we are getting beat by teams at the bottom of the league their is no way we will win the league, if we beat the huns when we play them we could still lose points home or away against the smaller teams

At the end of the day the number of points does not really matter its all about being number 1 , Celtic should take it 1 game at a time and not look too far ahead alot can happen ,.

Agreed - one game at a time and not always about points in old firm games but I personally think this season it will be about that. 1st game Parkhead let's do them there and see where that takes us

I'm not sure, 1 point more than Rangers would do it for me :celt_2:

I'm hoping that Rangers finish 3rd in their Champions League group, and fall into the Europa, extra games for them could be an advantage to us.

Don't care how we win it this season, we just need to win it.

Consistencys the key you need a run of victorys no doubt

look at MON in his first season top of the league after the first few games and we never looked back finished that season with 100 points

Lennies started well top of the league after three games and if you count the league games from last year we're unbeaten in 13 games

we need to build up a head of steam because rangers will be waiting for
    the least mistake:50:

85+. Winning consistently against the weaker sides will decide the battle. I doubt the OF-s will swing the tide much.

85 points will do it! Don't cry when we lose our 1st game there is a long way to go!
