I highly rate them both but they simply cannot stick the ball in the net, but I think they are outstanding on the wing. Fortune's delivery is pitch perfect and he works well with Cha - against ICT he done well at holding up the ball waiting for Cha to make the overlapping run. Sammy is one of our best players in my opinion, he used his strength and pace very effectively recently and looks as if he's in great form right now.

Fortune is never a CF, he simply can't finish well enough to be called one but he does pretty well from wide right and usually causes problems from there. You could call Samaras a forward but not a striker, he doesn't spend enough time in the box for that. Samaras is best wide left.

For me Fortune is great out on the right he's not a natural goal scorer but can pitch in with a few for me he's like an eclipse with goals (it doesnt happen often but when it does it's something special).

Sammy on the other hand sometimes i dont know what he's doing he likes to drop deep and pick up the ball which is a good thing sometimes and might even be suited to an Attacking Mid role, does ok out on the left but crap on the counter attack he gives the opposition too much time to get back so he can get a cross in and by that time their is 11 opponents and about 2 strikers and 2 midfielders in the box for us.

Both have looked the part out in the wide positions. Sammy is good when running at a defence, he just always seems to take a step too many. Fortune is the better player in my opinion and is the one i'd like to see get a proper run in the team. Dont think he's a goalscorer though. Better as a wide man!

Would it not be better to have 2 out n out strikers constantly playing the box area than having your strikers out on the wing coming from that area ,because thats whats happening and it shows in Celtic's lack of goals.

Not many teams do that these days. 4-5-1/4-3-3 variations are all the rage and what the most attacking teams use...

So what formation are Celtic playing at the minute and during pre-season because i dont see any strikers in that area of the box where they should be when Sammi and Fortune are delivering in a ball ,hence going back to the lack of goals scored by Celtic during pre-season against lets say middle of the road teams ,basically what im saying is ,i hate to see strikers out in the wing position .

Samaras cannot counter attack he holds the ball up too long we need to hit teams harder and faster on the counter attack we let them all get back to defend thats our problem and we get caught on the counter attack

Fortune - not a good enough finisher to be up front,

Sameras - can't hold his position when he's the main striker,

The only way I would play them would be,

    sameras - left wing
    Fortune - right wing

but I would rather they were back ups this season

Having 2 wide strikers cutting in and feeding a goal scorer (Hooper) and a classic no.10 playmaker (Maloney in CAM) is one of the most dynamic, fluid attacking systems you can play. With 2 CMs in behind, one holding (Kayal) and one supporting/making late runs and long passes (Ledley) and our full backs bombing forward on the overlap to provide width when the wide-men cut inside. Every time Fortune runs at the defence and Cha flies past him wide we seem to be likely to score.

    Agree with this.

I think both Samaras and Fortune will work brilliantly for us when we have the natural goal scorer back as the '1' in the 4-2-3-1 system.

Fortune has shown recently he can be really effective coming in from the right and Samaras has proved with some fantastic performances for Greece - that he could fo the same on the left.

Well that's not how I viewed the pre-season games. It's not lack of goals that was our problem but inability to keep a clean sheet. We did score a reasonable amount of goals (2 against Lyon, 2 against Arsenal, 1 against Man U and 2 in a competitve tie against a strong Braga outfit) so I wouldn't say middle of the road.

On the contrary we conceded 4 against Braga, 3 Manu, 3 Arsenal, 2 Lyon so as I say, it's defence where the concern has been - hopefully the new CB and LB can rectify this and it would be even better if we could get a GK.

Oh yeah against Inverness I truely believe Samaras played almost a perfect long striker game (apart from 1 horrendous lack of cut back to Maloney). He held the ball up well, dragged the defence where it really didn't want to go creating room for Maloney, played a killer through ball for Maloney which was practically an assist, nearly got on the scoresheet foiled by a goal-line clearance and generally looked dangerous.

I'm sure I've said this about Sammy since big Jan left and Fortune since he came in.

Neither are penalty box strikers, and I think every team needs one of those. I'd happily play Hooper or Rassmusen in that position. Given the right support they'd all score a barrel load. Murphy might even be able to do it.

Having Sammy left and Fortune right with 2 attacking fullbacks would give us plenty of width, but also having players on the wings who can cut in and score.

Back that up with a 3 man midfield with someone skilfull playing behind the lone stiker (i.e. McCourt or Maloney) and 2 more defensive players and 2 strong centre backs and we'd have a great team without having to strenghten any position (except possibly goalkeeper)

To me this just seems so obvious because what we've been doing with Samaras/Fortune upfront just doesn't work.

    Perfect world.

    --------------Zaluska---------------
    -Cha--Majstorovic-Hooiveld--Izaguirre
    ---------Juarez----Ledley-----------
    ---Fortune---McCourt---Samaras---
    --------------Hooper---------------

Depending on who we were playing I'd swap Fortune for Forrest and McCourt/Samaras for Maloney. Not seen enough of the new LB to be totally confident but I don't rate Mulgrew at all, if Izaguirre turns out to be * I'd play Ledley there and bring in either Crosas or Kayal (again depending on how good he actually is)

Obviously this is never going to happen though because the sun seems to shine out Browns * even though he cannae kick a ball or make it through more than 3 matches without getting booked.

Fortune definitely yes, Sammy is more of a second striker for me.

i don't think samaras is good enough. never will be either. he is more interested in picking folk off the ground. that * me off. when did you ever see sutton or hartson picking people up. samaras just frustrates me. time he was on his way. fortune for me is better as a right winger. when he come on against braga, he was the best player on the park.

Go back a season or 2 and look at McDonald ,he scored for fun cos he was a box player ,Kris Boyd is another box player and these are 2 examples of out n out poachers who basically dont do to much apart from popping goals from 1 yard to 12 yards out ,thats my idea of a centre forwards role and the point im making when saying i hate seeing forwards stuck out in the wing.
