I kind of agree with you, but I think it really is down to the manager to drill in the right attitude.

The class of Scotland players is utter balls. We can just buy it the right markets instead of paying over the od's for average players. We should just concentrate on bringing our own scottish players through.

You can't expect your players to get a feeling with the club and really fight for Celtic if they're brought in from every part of the world and just living in Glasgow to raise money.
The people who complain (and I think they're right) about the lack of motivation and spirit should see the correlation between the fighting spirit and the origin of the players.

It does not bother me where players are from as long as they give 100% and play well for Celtic. Certainly it is always great to see local home grown players come through or have some big Irish, Scottish or Welsh players in the team. But equally some of my all time Celts are guys who came from elsewhere and grew to love the club such as say Larsson or more recently Boruc.

Yes. Not only this affects us, but Scottish football as whole.

Let's face it, Scotland can hardly produce top class players and there aren't even signs that it will change for better in future. The best ones leave for Championship clubs or bottom/mid EPL team at best. And for peanuts as well. Not good news.

In long term this is issue for us, it will lead us to spending more on foreign players of similar or slightly better quality than current lads available in Scotland. Also, it will have negative effect on other teams in Scotland who will provide talented players and hold them for year or two at best, then sell for 6 figure price to some club down south.

I think Celtic has by far the best youth system in Scotland, but it didn't provide significant results in recent years. We don't have any more Maloneys, McGeadys, McManus' etc. Only Forrest is showing lots of potential at the moment, but that's about it. We have example of Wilson who went to Liverpool for only £2m. If he stayed in Scotland for few more years, he'd have guaranteed good move to top club in England and would have cemented place in Scottish national team by then.

As much as I like having quality Scottish players from other SPL team, it doesn't help domestic football at all. Players always move to Celtic or Rangers and then sign for English club after that. Granted, they can maybe get better deal or move to slightly better club, but that's as far as it goes. Lose-lose situation for Scottish football in general.

Nurturing players from their early days and providing them with better coaching and facilities is what would help. Foreign coaches can maybe be answer. Concentrating on technical side of game more is priority, you can't just teach youngsters to 'get * intae them'. Typical example being Scott Brown. Reserve league needs to be introduced once more and if that doesn't work, loan players to get as much first team action as possible.

really, who cares where a player is from? arguably our best ever player is from sweden, did he know of the passion of celtic when he grew up, no he didnt, he came to celtic and fell in love with the club and gave more than 100% every game. just because a player is from scotland or ireland doesnt mean he will give any more, in terms of effort and desire, than someone from the other side of the world.

im pretty sure we would all rather that our players are from scotland/ireland but at the end of the day, these countries are very small and dont produce enough decent players for us to be able to live off the youth unlike the south americans and europeans who constantly produce many top class players.

Yes it does bother me. Not for any racist or anti-foreign reason but because I believe as a Scottish/Irish club we should retain a core of home grown players.

The only time in Celtic's history where the team was flooded with foreign players and we enjoyed success was the Martin O'Neill era and let's face it, the players we had in the team then were just EXCEPTIONALLY good and were no strangers to the 'up and at' em' style of football played in the SPL.

One of the things Gordon Strachan did which I actually thought was a good idea was to try and maintain a core of Scottish players who knew the Scottish Football scene and then try to add a few foreigners who had more quality to that core. I think in Celtic's current situation that is a pretty good formula for success. It certainly seems clear to me that one of the major reasons for Rangers success in the past couple of seasons has been the core of Scottish players they have all digging in for each other and fighting for the cause against the odds. Personally I think we could do with a bit of that ourselves.

At the moment our team and our squad has become foreigner heavy. Can we say with any certainty that all these foreigners will come here, understand the enormity of the club they're playing for and gel as a team? No we cannot. In short, we are taking a gamble. If we'd had a core of Scottish/Irish players at the club I feel the extent of the gamble would have been lessened.

Personally I'd like to see a few more Scots arriving at the club and Lee Wallace would have been my number one target. Still, it seems pretty obvious that's not happening now we've bought ourselves a Honduran left-back who I'm sure will not find Scottish Football a culture shock at all. :87:

I voted not bothered, as i`m not bothered about where they come from but there ability to do the best for celtic. Not many good quality Scottish players, the only two I would pick are Darren and Steven Fletcher.

Darren Fletcher is a magnificent player and when he plays for Scotland looks like he couldn`t kick his own *, because the rest of the team are pish and negative tactics are played every time.

We don't need to have them in our team because there are plenty in our league

Unlike the epl, so I don't think we have the same problem with developing young talent

James Forrest looks to be the guy who could establish himself this season and I hope he gets a run in the team.

Celtic have recently upped their scouting network in ireland. The epl clubs have upped there networks here a long time ago. Celtic have took to long to recongise this, considering the players that have joined epl clubs in recent years.

why would anyone ever care where a person is from? are we not celtic? do we discriminate against any color, religion, heritage, ancestry (apart from the huns?)? how many 'homegrown' players did we have in 2003 in Seville? Some of our best players in the past decade were not British/Irish so why should I give a * all else where anybody comes from. If we start signin players from Ireland are we gonna make the Barcas or the Inters or the Bayern Munichs start quakin in their boots?

I'm being serious. if you voted yes to this, explain to me why you did. this does my head in.

Am I missing something? We've signed; Mulgrew, Ledley, Murphy and Hooper.

Kayal, Juarez, Cha and Majstorovic are all powerful grafters which is the attribute he was getting at when he said he wanted more British/Irish players.

Not only am I happy with his signing policy I'd also get rid of 2 other Scots in Maloney and Brown, the nationality of any of our players matters not a jot. The amount of trophies they are capable of winning does.

Why give scots a chance if they simply are not good enough, i can tell you right now McArthur simply isn't good enough for celtic, he won't play a lot for wigan and McCarthy at wigan just got pumped off Blackpool, Scottish players that we would like to see at celtic and im saying this for a third time are not good enough. Lee wallace that everyone wants at left back is again, in my opinion not good enough and overpriced.

I saw Lee wallace against Sweden in a friendly and he was ripped to pieces, granted against good opposition but if celtic want to progress in EL then he would be up against ... good opposition. It seems to me these foreign players we have brought in do have a sense of loyalty, Juarez looks like he will run through bullets for the team, Kayal speaks the same we shall see if he does it on the pitch.

These guys like Juarez, Izaguirre, Kayal come from places where life is difficult, they are not shy of putting the foot in, Mexico, Honduras, Israel what do these places have in common, conflict, some might say poverty.

Lennon said he wants players who play for the club and i can tell you know these specific 3 players will play for the club because they have experienced hardships that most scots haven't. They do not have this drinking society which scots do, so sorry for the rant but this notion of scottish players i agree if they are good has a warrant but hardly any apart from 2/3 are even remotely good enough for celtic end of.

Absolutely agree, players need to be in squads basd on there abilities, not their nationality. Look at the epl, they now have rules about home grown and 25 man squads, but as Wenger said the other day "from 1966 to 1996 England won absolutely nothing, and there was not one foreign player."

Smart man that Wenger, pity he's tring to steal Shay from under our noses :47:
