according to wikipedia he has only ever won one medal when he was on loan at sunderland and they won the championship to go up to premier league

surely thats got to act in our favour no?

he's been on premier league wages for over 15yrs so he ain't short of a few bob

i'm confident if we secure a deal with city wages won't be a problem

i'm hoping here that not every single modern day footballer puts money first all of the time silly way of thinking maybe but time will tell

 

And I'm sure say £30k a week would cover that anyway.

 

You would think players who have stashed away 2 or 3 million every season for years would be able to stop worrying about cash but they do seem to be in the main greedy cnuts. However, I think since we became useless in Europe and CL football dissapeared, we have lost the one thing that could have made better players come to Scotland.

 

If we don't get Given bring back Boruc!!

 

Given is better than boruc.

 

If we get Given he would be on lower wages around the same amount that Westwood would demand.

Westwood will have options in the Prem so he is going to want a hefty wage from us to match the wages he could get in the Prem.

We should offer Given 30k a week max and see if he really wants to play for his boyhood club.

 

cant really say this! i think he was quoted somewhere that he would walk from coventry to glasgow to sign for celtic! so to me the wages thing would not be a problem! but of course this is only what i think.

 

if we have any chance the hope we get him.world class keeper,better than boruc,better than any keeper most of us will ever have seen at parkhead in our lifetime

 

Be realistic mate. If we offer him 20k a week and then Everton come in with a 30k a week offer, it's almost guaranteed that he would turn the * around and walk to Everton.

He only qualify's for the Republic through his Granny so is most likely not a fan either. Pretty sure he is a City fan.

 

cant say this! how do you know this si what he would do? there is more to life than earning an extra few grand somewhere else. and besides you not better off playing somewhere that you will play and challenge for honors at home and europe?

 

Am I missing something here ? Why do Everton want him when they have a perfectly decent Goalkeeper in Howard ?, He was signing shirts in Coventry City Centre a few months back and I had one of those half and half tops on half Celtic and half Ireland and my wee sister went and got his autograph and he said to me nice shirt that mate, and the Coventry Telgraph have previously reported Westwood to say that to go to Celtic would be a dream move.

 

Unfortunately that's not the way it works. We would have one * of a team if players chose honours over a big pay packet. Money Talks a * of a lot more than success these days, sad but true.

For example Bothroyd has apparently rejected us and is now on his way to Everton. We will see what Given chooses if we are competing with some other Prem club. Hopefully he is different to the cash hungry mercenaries that are ruining the game!

if Given was offered the chance to come here i think he'd jump at it. he said wages wouldn't be an issue. Man City are in a financial position to reject bids from Arsenal and Liverpool. Man Utd are going for De Gea, Chelsea have Cech and Spurs have just signed Freidel. meaning we're going to be against the likes of Everton etc. if we go up against Everton etc for his signature, i'm in no doubt he'll choose to come here.

even if Everton offer him £40k a week i think if we offered half of that, he'd still choose us.

 

not all players are all for the money! so we shall see what happens soon enough?

* him i want a younger keeper who is going be with us for a couple of years. I dont want Celtic to get bent over a table paying his wages while he says celtic are the only club for him. If they were that in love with celtic they would have lowered their wage demands espescially since he has made his fortune at man city.

In that sense i respect bellamy cause he always said he wanted to play at cardiff while he was still in his prime

I am sick in tired of seeing irish players (2 keanes and given) saying celtic is the only club for them while taking the huge pay packets.
