As I said above, that kind of system is useless against anything other than 2-striker systems. Any opponent will either play 4-5-1 and park the bus or go 4-3-3 and drag our defence to *.

3,5,2 with cha playing wing back and mulgrew trying the same on the left but wallace would be good
cb rogne jos milan and leave them together to gain ex unless we get a gallas.
    midfiield forrest/juerez kayal/crosas paddy/ledly
    cf hooper&bellamy

Ineffective against 4-5-1 and too vulnerable to a 4-3-3.

couldn't have said this better myself. i think you are kidding yourself if you think 352 is suitable to the modern game or for this season. o'neill noticed the flaws and changed the system towards the end of his tenure. we play 451 formations week in week out and in old firms. also, most european oppositions play with some variation of 433. leave 352 to the o'neill era and move with the times!

    4-2-3-1 is the way forward.

what i find funny is that through out pre season and maybe against Braga when we were trying all sorts of formations the ONLY time we've actually looked a team is when were are playing a 4-4-2 system.

really though until we sort out defense by signing some qaulity CB's, GK, two LB's and maybe another RB we can play 8-1-1 and we will still let in goal after goal after goal after goal, and the reason i say buy another RB and maybe two LB's is mainly for the reason of looking at making the most of Cha's pace and what seems to be a decent cross further up the pitch rather then have it used mainly in our own half, his pace much like agathe would be great at getting behind opposite fullbacks and with the LB issue considering Mulgrew is the only real LB at the team we could do with another two one to take Mulgrew's spot and one to cover injuries as you never know what could happen.

4-2-3-1 should be the way to go though and trying to predict what lenny would put out if he were to be using that formation i would imagine he make it look like this
    ------------------------------Zaluska-------------------------------
    -----------Cha-------Loovens----------Hooiveld----------Mulgrew
    ----------------------Juarez------------Brown-------------------
    -------------Fortune---------Ledley------------Sammy-------------
    -----------------------------Hooper-------------------------------

and thats just going on players at the team now, new players will still be signed yet no doubt about it whether or not though it will players that can get loovens out and give Mulgrew and good shafting and get his * in gear along with some one to not just compete for the GK spot but to actually come in and just be good enough to take the shirt from him and make it his own while Zaluska does everything he can to get it back.

fo surer though August is going to be one * of a month for celtic

McGinn & McCourt over Samaras and Fortune? This will never happen. I also don't like one up front because we rarely get the support up the the lone stricker.

The manager decides what formation. Not fans. 4-4-2 looks our most solid.

Any other formation hasn't been given a real chance - 4-4-2 has been dropped by every single top side in the past 2 years barring Chelsea (although they gave a good third of their season to 4-3-3)

Alex Ferguson: “The idea behind the 4-5-1 is that you can control the midfield and keep possession of the ball – that’s always your aim when you use that formation. I believe the team that has possession of the ball has more opportunities to win the match. As for the 4-4-2, there is more emphasis in that formation placed on playing the ball forward…playing 4-5-1 requires a lot of patience.”

That playing the ball forward part sums up why we always see us using the long ball. Also why we see 1 of our strikers buggering off elsewhere (Fortune favours the right channel, Sammy the left)

Take Loovens out for Rogne, Mulgrew out for Misun, Brown for Kayal (he can't be anymore detrimental to the team than Brown) and that'd be a solid team.

Would prefer to see McCourt possibly for Samaras, but Sammy has had a good preseason, I feel.

one thing that does concern me though recently is this that overall Sammy is inconsitant when starting games but yet some of his finest moments for us have come off the bench which makes me believe he's a "super sub" basically deeming him not good enough to start, so who would take his place? Paddy would be the obvious choice surely? but not for me as his fitness is a big concern so it seems his skill, movement and determination much like Sammy actually would best served coming from the bench so although i'll stand by both and select sammy to start their inconsistant ways are abit of a concern when actually start a game compared to coming from the bench, so possibly i wouldn't mind seeing, from mid to attack.

    ----------------------------Juarez---Kayal-----------------------
    -----------------------Brown----Ledley-----Ki--------------------
    --------------------------------Hooper---------------------------

Juarez and Brown seem like they could do well together and tbf to Brown I don't think he's had a bad pre season but i've only put him in because he's going to play whether we like it or not but considering Juarez likes to bomb forward from deep Kayal can still cover, Ledley can roam and can Ki can ping in the passes, while Brown would more then likely follow Juarez by trying to bomb forward and play short passes rather then crosses, and if it aint working well then you got the strength of play from MAF to call on, Sammy's pace and effective running from the left also along with Rass to poach any crosses same with Murphy and then there is still Paddy to come on with his silky skills and movement and decent enough shot to go at tired defenders.

so really i feel lenny has got one big banging yet healthy headache going on

@Warrior - Samaras has been pretty faultless while starting for us against Braga and in pre-season.

I understand that as right now he seems like the only from last seasons team thats doing every thing he can to get a win for our team, and TBH ever since Sammy signed i've been one of his biggest fans as he's showed in previous years that there is actaully a good few goals in him and if it were for greece ignoring his injury etc... Sammy would have had an awesome season that time, but since then becuase he could find that form fans have been on his back like spots on a greesy teen and refuse to give him a chance, so with that in mind thats why i'm concerned about him starting most games.

Personally I want him to prove me wrong and get something good going starting with ICT and don't really want him going but if fans keep on at him like they have and his form stays inconsistant i don't want him being a super sub as such as he won't be happy about not starting and we will end up losing him any way

4-2-3-1 is definitely the way forward for european football.

or even a 4-3-2-1 system would be better than 4-4-2.
