Cant let these boys leave for nothing, for all we know they could have turned down the offer of a new deal.
If he does go then I wish him all the best

Hinkel was a decent player for the last few seasons but i dont think we heard of offerin players new contracts... Boruc we sold cos he had 1 year left, could we not offer him a contract and now the same with Hinkel,:38:

will miss Hinkel if he leaves but if he's on his last year then its only the right choice

All depends how much we get - nothing silly like a million surely! Got a feeling if he were to go - due to contract expiring - it would be something silly. Which kind of * me off as we were being offered well in excess (a fee that I would have probably been happy taking at the time in January). Surely someone sits down with him then and says 'If you aren't signing extension you're off) rather than wait till now - 6 months down the line and perhaps end up getting a quarter of that.

Decent player, nothing more. I wish him well but not particularly concerned that he will be leaving. Lennon has always maintained that the team must start from the back so lets have faith that the guys he has brought in as well as the existing players that will be staying are gonna have a much stronger defensive shape this season.

You need to think of it like this...we are in the SPL, a league with * all money, therefore Celtic need to generate money in any way possible. By offering guys who are 30+ a contract extension, instead of selling them on, we're backing ourselves into a corner and losing out on potential revenue.

Good players, yes, talismen (like Larsson)? certainly not.

We've had great seasons out of the two but their value will only decrease with age and at the end of any contract extension that they could have been offered, they'd end up becoming surplus to requirements and will leave for free. So not only will these players be on top dollar 'til their last day at the club, we will have made nothing in return.

As much as MoN is adored, and rightly so, he almost crippled us with the contract extensions he gave to Sutton, Thompson and especially Balde. I'm not saying we should have sold them in their prime but moving them on before their contract expired would have made a BIG difference on our finances, instead, sentiment took over and we were left with players who, you can't fault for ANY of their efforts, weren't upto the job as much as the new, younger and fitter players coming in.

Unless we ever have a Henrik Larsson-esque player at our club, I don't see why any player should be allowed to pick up massive wages then leave for nothing when we could get a few good seasons out of them then sell them on for a tidy profit, bringing in a younger, fitter player in their place and then doing exactly the same thing in a few years after that.

Let's face it, we are in a * poor league with hee haw money, if this is the way it has to be done, then so be it.

These men are professionals who are paid, and paid well, to do a job any of us would do for free and selling players on for the benefit of the club is just the nature of the beast, it has to be done otherwise the club doesn't make money...if the club doesn't make money, how can we be expected to bring in these new faces that fans are desperate for?

i know i've been singing rass's qaulities without knowing much so to contradict myself in a sense, aslong as Cha can assist in as many goals Hinkel managed in a relly dire season, last season then i will cry as Hinkel was left to leave as much as i don't want it to happen

You're right there, mate. Hinkel was one of the very few silver linings on a very dark cloud last season but I've got faith in Lenny and although I can only base my opinions on Cha with regards to what I witnessed at the World Cup, I think he'll be a more than able replacement. :celt_2:

we have to get another couple of years out of him imo. he has proven that he is one of our best players, vastly underrated by the majority of fans, most conistant performer in the team and provides quite a few assists too.

id say get him to sign a years extension and if cha or juarez turn out to be better than/just as good then we can cash in in a years time. but we dont know how these two guys will perform throughout the whole season in high pressure games.

His value will decrease with each passing year not to mention that if we did offer him a new contract, I'm sure he will, and rightly so, want an improvement on his current one. He is entering the latter stages of his career, all players want that one, final, big contract.

Moving him on is the correct thing to do, given the circumstances.

I find it rather ironic that for a long time I really wasn't a fan of Hinkel and he'd be in the team every week. Last season was a bit of a watershed for me and I actually started to appreciate the guy and now he's probably going to be sold. :87:

why would we need to sell hinkel? cos cha has signed? lol we have 2 good rb`s here and i would rather sell wilson. and besides if we do sell him? then no more than 4m for him .

I do rate hinkel & boruc, but if these players have been offerd the best contracts we can offer & said no they should be sold. What if we keep all the players who only have one year left what would we do when they all decided to leave at the same time?

If he does go he'll be missed. Easily one of our best players throughout last season.

I can't help but think selling Hinkel will be a mistake, a consistent performer. But I haven't seen Juarez play yet and Cha looked decent at the WC.

Hinkel was one of those lads that just put his head down and got stuck in
but if we lose him for nothing next year that might be a bad bit of business
get some money while we can
good luck where ever he goes, was a great servant and still is
