Moving on from Larsson to Bellamy....

Keane came to Celtic last season for the final 5 months of the campaign, and like both predecessors, was a roaring success, despite a very poor season for the club.

All the talk recently on the forum, regarding the current situation with the strikers at the club, wether they are good enough, who will partner who etc etc.....

Larsson to Bellamy to Keane, for me, simply highlights the urgency for Celtic to sign a quality striker, who will consistently perform week in week out, while scoring goals, and exciting the fans.

Imagine last season without Robbie keane, how bad it could have been....?

Again, this just highlights the need for Celtic to buy a quality forward, i doubt we will get the likes of Keane or Bellamy, but a striker of similar quality should be a priority for the club.

if i was lennon, i wouldnt have signed murphy, id punt samaras and a good few others of the squad and sign a top quality striker. but with fortune rasmussen murphy and samaras and then the younger strikers i doubt that we will see a big name striker.

Sammy is at his best coming off the bench and can still be a good option. I feel we need a quality striker and that will only be on a loan deal I think.

I think if any bids came in for Fortune and Sammy, he will sell, release wages and bring in a few extra bucks mate.

Also not to sure if he is so keen on Rass, none of us have seen him in training, or a decent run in the team, so no-one can really comment with any authority on the boy.

There will be further changes at celtic Park mate.

Bit perplexed by the Murphy signing.

On the one hand I'm not sure if Lennon's happy with 4 strikers of Sammy/Fortune/Ras/Murphy

He can't be - he must be looking for another top class striker - which means he has to be looking to punt one of Sammy/Ras/Fortune. Probably Sammy.

It's not hugely realistic for us to get a known star like Keane or Bellamy - I don't think we can expect it. What I am expecting is signing a lesser known striker who hopefully has very good attributes and again will see us needing to punt someone.

We do need a quality goal threat, but that is realisitic in our price range, its just players like Larsson was a a true legend and now we've been spoilt since then with short term deals, Strachan didn't need this as he had Skippy, i feel if we can get another Striker like Skippy, someone who scores goals, we will be fine. and there are players like that we can afford.
A Striker who can score, should be top of Lennon's List, and i feel it is.

As I mentioned, dont think it will realistically be the likes of Keane or Bellamy.

But its a need, again, could be down to good scouting.

On the Murphy signing. Has anyone see the boy play yet, I tend to reserve judgment on a player until they get a run in the side. I feel the boy is taking a bit of unfair stick without even kicking a ball.

His arrival could see the end of one of the pair of most inconsistent players in recent years at CP, Fortune & Sammy!

Again i think there will be change at Celtic Park.

i would like rass to be the main striker with some one to link up with as when he got a few games with keane they automatically linked up so well.

rass is a out and out goal hanger basically a better version of boyd and look at his scoring record for rangers, so if we can get some one who's an intelligent player and just doesn't run out wide all the time like sammy and fortune do then rass is our goal scorer no doubt,

and if anyone tries to argue about pace, for while we ended up playing sutton and hartson together!!! and they worked well.

i feel in rass we have a skippy and what lennon is looking for is some one of intelligence at celtic's price range e.g a poor mans berkamp or larsson but will still be deadly

How can you say he is a better version of Boyd, and that he is the new Skippy.

Both these players where 30+ per season strikers, you havent seen rass with an extended run, or even a run in the side, and we never knew what he was like before he came to Celtic.

So cannot agree at all there dude, but like you, i hope in time he will come good, but does it seem as if Lenny fancies him right now, thats questionable?

An experienced striker is what we need, someone with a proven record and who is guaranteed to come up and score goals at Celtic.

IMO there is absolutely no evidence to suggest Rassmussen is better than Boyd. In fact i would go as far to say i will be surprised if hes a regular start this season....

I guess in some ways the reason i have such a blind faith in him was because of the fact he brought in for his scoring nature and nothing else, idon't think it's case of lennon not looking to keen on him it may be more a case with the current friendlies so far looking at youth lot and whether or not they will come in useful for the coming season so far with friendlies played lenny has treated them as nothing but, and really played all the younger players with the odd senior in there.

with rass he just like Ki only been here since Jan so not really had much of a look in but to me 4 actual starts and 3 goals? suggests something to me there also were i'm sure he started with keane those 4 times? and so my theory of finding an intelligent player of the ilk, him and rass along with the service of players like Maloney, Ledley, Ki, Juarez?, Mcgeady (if he's here), Hinkle, Cha and Mulgrew techincally there should be no shortage of chances by the looks of that.

it's crazy i know but i firmly believe rass to be a 25 goal scoring striker atleast.

but as mentioned above no evidence to suggest hes better than Boyd.

From what i've seen of him so far he looks very laboured.

I tend to agree there mate

It would be great if that was a gauruntee mate, and we wouldnt need to look any further, but the indications are that he will not be the main striker up top and lead the line.

Maybe im a bit wet behind the ears when it comes to Mogga's signings, but I tend to question them 1st, due to the nature of his signing policy, a tad wrong maybe i know, but something I cant help.

But persoannly I cant see Rass a starter next year.

i know it's a bold claim to suggest and i doubt he'll be breaking any SPL scoring records as i think he won't be here long enough to do and i know there is no evidence right now but come end of the season rass will be on 25 goals

Well from what i've seen of Rasmussed so far, he seems really slow and bulky. Think he just came in at a bad time when we signed Keane, it's not his fault, as he would more than likely be getting played.

To be honest i have still reserved my judgement on him as he didn't get a fair crack at the whip last season. Im going to judge all last season's signings this season ( fortune, ki, rasmussen, hoiveld, and rogne mainly ) as they will all have had a pre-season under their belt and start fresh. Ledly, Juarez, Du-Ri, and Murphy il maybe give to half way along the season, depending on how many starts they get. Not really fair to judge a player if he gets less than 10 competitive appearences imho.
