Over the next 5 weeks we will be running a series of threads with polls attached in order to find out who the TalkCeltic community's 'Team of the Decade' is. Each poll will be stickied and will stay up for a week so that members can have a good discussion of all the players that have played for Celtic in the past decade and can take their time to have a good think before voting if they want to. Or else you can just vote for your favourites! :bbpd: It will also give some of our less regular users a chance to cast their vote and participate.

The team will be picked in a 3-5-2 formation(I chose that formation because it leaves out the problematic left-back position and it was a formation we had a lot of success with in the past decade) and the polls will be as follows:

    Week 1 - Goalkeepers
    Week 2 - Centre-Backs
    Week 3 - Wide Midfielders/Wing Backs
    Week 4 - Central Midfielders/Playmakers
    Week 5 - Strikers
    Week 6 - Manager

At the end of the 6 polls we should have ourselves an official TalkCeltic Team of the Decade and the results will be posted up for members to see.

This week's poll is to decide who will fill the 3 Centre-Back positions in the TalkCeltic Team of the Decade. While centre-back probably hasn't been one of the stronger areas of recent Celtic teams we have still had a few very capable defenders so feel free to discuss your favourites and get your votes in. The poll has been set-up so that you can vote for more than one player, this will enable members to vote for the 3 players they want to fill the centre-back positions. :50:

    Hail! Hail!

Adam Virgo. Hands down. Although he's lucky Rafael Scheidt was signed in 1999 because he's the only person that could have pushed Virgo.

But to be serious it is depressing to look at the quality in the first half of that list compared to the second half. Voted Balde, Mjallby, and Kennedy. Kennedy being a somewhat sentimental "what could have been..." vote.

    Bobo, Joos and Johan.
I loved Stubbsy and Boyd but i feel there best years were pre 2000
Kennedy would certainly be in had it not been for that Romanian * :(
For Back up i'd have Varga Mick and Heid

That's a good point actually. I was going to vote for Stubbsy but I will think it over a bit more after reading that.

Mjallby - Solid, composed, reliable. A rock. Easy choice.
Valgareen - Read the game well, tactically aware, good in the air.
Caldwell - A couple of high profile blunders don't overshadow some of the performances he put in. A solid and reliable defender who showed a lot of resilience after some of the flak he took. Could also pass the ball well.

I really wanted to vote for Stubbs and Boyd but as has been said, their best years were pre 2000. Would have went for Bobo were he not as slow and his passing was woeful. Also, after the long saga of Bobo sitting on his * collecting wages for doing nothing, I don't feel inclined to vote for him.

Mjallaby, Bobo, Varga. All solid defenders, Both Varga and Mjallaby were consistent aswell. Bobo inconsistent and hopless with ball at his feet but voted because he was a tank and people were scared of him.

Valgaeren, Mjallby and Balde. Stubbs or Boyd would have been in there somewhere but their best days were pre-2000.

3 absoolutely solid defenders, hard as nails and never lost a 50/50 ball. Forget all the * with Bobo under WGS, for many years he was one of the best CBs in Britain I felt.
Also, all 3 of them chipped in with a fair few goals going forward, alot more than most teams get from their defenders. It's sad to think they were only here about 7 years ago and look at the quality of defender we have today. Miss leaders like these guys.

Voted Balde, Mjallby and Boyd, then read the posts and agree with the fact that Boyds best years were pre 2000, never thought of that, a legend all the same and I think big Joos will definately get in the team anyway.
What's Bobo doing now? No doubt spending some of the money he earned while sitting in the reserves under WGS!
