Interesting stuff that. I can still see the big clubs finding lopeholes in this. Can only be a good thing for Celtic and for football in general. We might see different clubs in the final 8 of the champions league rather than the same teams every year, which for me has made it a bit boring and predictable. only time will tell I reckon.

Could mean Teams will spend more money developing Stadiums ie- more capacity = more income, etc.

don't bother commenting if you have nothing useful to say then.

I think this is the sort of ruling that could see our financial prudence of the last few years finally be beneficial. Don't see how it can't help us - we have turnover similar to any club outside the top 4 in England, top 2 in Spain and a few other clubs in Europe. This means we will be able to spend a decent whack of money and should put us in a good position

:56: just found that funny lol

It will help us compete more but aslong as sky is giving out ridiculous amounts of money to EPL teams for TV rights etc things wont change a whole lot imo

When Platini was running for President of Uefa, I remember spotting this as one of his main aims right away. This is good for us. I'm not saying us and Rangers should be winning the Champions League but if the dutch clubs and the greek clubs are starting to make an impact, so can we. When we reached the last 16 two years in a row, we should have spent to try to get to the last 8. The same happened with Seville ! Just sat back and went backwards.

Will believe this when I see it? as for us,Celtic FC are at their limit on how much more money we can earn,if we could screen our own matches and beam them round the world then this would make a load of difference, but sadly media rights are with SPL,SKY will continue to pump * loads into EPL so we will still be under dogs, and if a mega rich benefactor came in with loads he would be stopped funding us ha ha no diff there then.:31:

You have to remember there is building restrictions in many cities, and look at Arsenal, they are just now paying off the building of Emirates. I think overall this is a positive for Celtic, and football across Europe. The ridiculous spending of the EPL and La Liga will only rise and rise unless something is done.

Smaller teams in the Premiership will still be able to outbid us because of the huge amount of income they receive commercially - broadcasting rights, sponsorship deals and so on. All that will change is clubs won't be able to receive funds for football matters out of an owners pocket or be able to rack up astronomical debts. In the long term that'll probably make them more sustainable and therefore strengthen their posiiton.

Commercially the SPL is still going to be far, far behind and we will still have to rely on ticket prices and European football for large amounts of our funding - we won't be seeing Dermott Desmond paying anyone's wages for a six-month loan deal again, either.

the only way we'll be able to get on equal footing is if there's a universal wage cap. and even then, we still wouldn't have the funds to keep up with even the middling teams in england. so much more money from the tellie

Agree and disagree lad. I agree that the SPL will not be as lucrative as other leagues. But i disagree with your first point. Anyone with an understanding of money would probably argue that the SKY money has peaked and will not increase. Insiders may think that the next deal will be lower. Use the global economy as an example. Crazy unregulated cowboy spending is unsustainable in the long run. And it would appear that a lot of these clubs cannot continue doing what they are doing forever. A massive bust is imminent and i think that if Platini gets his way then good times could be less than a decade away for us, also if this is the case then Lawell could go down as a Celtic legend for the direction he has us heading. i.e. good youth system/ living within our means.

there is still the issue of Sky money

what will happen, is either the transfer value of players -or- the wages of players will go go down. Probably not both. But at any rate, the worst club in England drawing 20,000 a week will still be making a lot more than Celtic and Rangers because Sky dishes out such silly cash

I do understand the economics of football tv wrights and your statement refering to SKY money peaking is correct in 1 sense, that being i can,t see sky upping the money they will be willing to pay in the next round of biding but that will be due to TWO main reasons 1 the compertition commision has stated that the Epl must break up the blocks for sale in the next round the idea being to give smaller retailers VIRGIN BT and so on, can get a bit of the Epl pie that will not in anyway lead to a drop of income for teams in the top flight, infact it will go up, those smaller retailers will have to pay top dollor for their blocks as they will face greater compertiition from smaller media groups, add to that the elephant in the room in the form of ESPN an organisation which could gobble up sky, a retailer with a vast world wide delivery platform which is hungry for content, what better product could a global sports media group want than the EPL watched by hundreads of millions from Beijing to bangkok luton to lagos oslo to cairo in the next bidding round ESPN will spend and spend big in fact i can quite easerly see the teams in the top flight and the championship increaseing thair income from tv wrights by 10/15 % the economics of sports broadcasting mean that SKY and all the reast will end up paying more because like a junky they need the Eng prem to survive . The massive bust you long for is not going to happen, not any time soon anyway plus we all know that the big and not so big clubs in england spain italy will object to and change the proposals to thair likeing i mean real madrid owe hundreds of millions are they going to be band?

I Agree with this. But, I also think this penalties will kill clubs like Shakhtar (smaller money from TV rights) who are mostly funded with owners help.

It's good news for some teams like Dundee Utd,Mwell, etc they should be spending money on their stadiums and fields making them better and it could in the long run improve income and attract better players to the SPL, Fair enough they might not full it but it could also let them make money from their stadiums by hosting events possibly.

As for the SKY money we cant do nothing about that, they will continue to get the beef of the profit.
