Very true. Every group of support has a section of ignorant neanderthols that are just plain and simple idiots. It's sad but true and we as Celtic fans can't think that not a single supporter at Celtic park wouldn't shout abuse at anyone for being gay because it wouldn't happen.

It is a shame that footballer's, or any sport players, feel that they can't be openly gay due to the amount of torrid abuse they would receive, and not just from football grounds, could be walking in the town, drinking in a bar. Sadly I don't see much changing in the way people think

thats the point of the article - no one comes out, basically due to fear. Statistically there has to have been more than 2 gay players

Yeah, you just dont hear about it. Max Clifford has said that many top flight footballers are gay, but that they are advised against coming out.

There are gay football leagues in Glasgow, set up mainly because some guys dont feel comfortable coming out in a straight team, or get abuse if they do.

You could class it as banter, but then if you are not gay you would not know the effect it had on people.

I get all the jokes about being a lesbian in work, and for the most part its grand because its friendly, but there are some people who treat me differently because of it. Mainly its other women who seem to think that being gay I will obviously fancy them ,and try it on. Does not matter that they are fat * with faces like a well skelped * though, because you know a lesbian is a lesbian and we fancy women. It gets annoying because I would not waste my time fancying a straight women because, what is the point. I respect their sexuality just as I would expect a straight guy to respect mine.

Sometimes though the banter, and being treated differently can hurt, but i feel that if I hide it, hide who I am, then folk will never really get used to it. I guess I think the same is true with the programme we are discussing.

It is a shame that gay footballers cannot come out. It isn't a disease.

Guti is gay, got caught kissing another man but he hasn't admitted being gay.

the problem is people don't know when to stop when it comes to banter and just plain nasty.

The fact that this thread is on a Celtic website proves to me that things have moved on a hundred miles.
When i started watching Celtic it was against the law to be gay, well for men anyway and that didn,t change until 1967.
The Glasgow public are a lot more open minded than they were in the past.
Not for me to judge anyone well maybe the dodgy orange bigot mob but their bonkers anyway.
    Life,s far too short.
