Seems Lennon is doing a bit of Dermot ball licking with his response to Charlies comments . * he really would do anything to land this job.

Well said m8. Nicholas is one of many of our former players who only ever seem to put us down.

lawwell is too much of a business man to be successful in football. what i mean is he will prevent the club from financial troubles as a result of over spending on players and all that, but that can result in a lack of quality on the pitch.

but i dont think he realises that spending little money can get you in deeper financial * than spending too much. if we had really pushed the boat out in terms of transfers over the last 2-3 seasons then we may be fanced with the exact opposite of what we are today: decent team and players, very very skint. but lawwell made sure we didnt push the boat out and as a result we are faced with * team and that has a knock on effect of the finances as we lose out on prize money, CL money and playing in front of 30,000.

i dont think lawwell is completely to blame for our situation, he gave TM money to do what he wanted and it didnt work out. but i think he needs to be partnered by a strong manager that will spend the money given wisely and effectively. however i do think lawwell and co take the fans for granted and were complacent during the 3IAR years and as a result, i think he has to go.

I can't say that I disagree with the general theme of Nicholas's comments at all that our board has been largely to blame for the complete and utter disaster that is the current Celtic team. What really irkes me too is the complete lack of accuntability from our board. It is their downsizing policy and do it on the cheap attitude which has not only left us in the current mess but it also blows all their earlier crap about how good we are doing financialy out of the water. Because this joke of a season and a half is going to see us take a massive financial nose dive. No board member is even willing to admit the obvious mess we are in never mind accept blame and admit the do it on the cheap policy has proven to be a disaster.
Clearly the playing staff is not the only area at Celtic that needs a major overhaul.

Sorry mate, Desmond has already 'thrown in' millions of his own cash and underwritten Lennoxtown.

He's made it clear in the past he has no interest in taking over Celtic and he' s not Roman Abrahmovic.

See this is the crux of the matter. I think as Celtic fans we have a tendency to be unrealistic about where we actually are. If someone wants to "invest in the club" it automatically follows that they want to use it as a profiting organisation: that's what "invest" means, putting in money up front, in the hope of getting it back with interest later.

There is no current possibility of this happening with Celtic.

Because there is no way that any investor with the resources to take on a club as large as Celtic, would see any attraction in taking on a club in a league as small as the SPL. Big-club-in-small-league is the worst of all possible situations - all the costs of running a big club, with none of the TV revenues to fund it.

You would need some crazy scenario - like an Irish billionnaire who just happened to be a Celtic fan - oh wait... that's what we've got. :56:

What Charlie Nicholas is completely failing to recognise, is that Celtic's financial restrictions are not a result of the board, they are a result of the SPL. The world of football has changed out of all recognition from the time he is talking about - and while so many leagues have risen, the SPL has fallen. That is the bottom line. We only need to look a few miles across the city to see that our only serious rivals have been far more badly run businesswise - and far more poorly-financed - than we have.

You know what? I'm willing to bet the Celtic board has spent more money on players over the last season than all the other clubs in the league put together. They've done their bit. It's the manager and the players who have come up short.

This seems to me to be spot on.

I wasn't a supporter of Lenny as our manager, but the more I hear from him in press conferences, the more I am warming to him.

Lennon handled this brilliantly... Charlie can * off back to london on his high horse and slate the state of our club/game from there. Only a Celtic fan when it suits him.

Plenty of other players with distinguished playing careers at Celtic, none of them have been berating the club and the SPL when things are good bad and indifferent.

He's being paid to be a mouthpiece, when his opinion isnt being discussed by the target audience is the day he looses his job. He has an exceptional slant against the club for some reason. Some days I do agree with some of his points but those are the inexcusable things that you dont need an ex pro with an ego to point out (e.g. EPL>SPL, fans running onto pitch (AC Milan) will be bad for the club etc etc)

Charlie Nicholas only has something to say about Celtic when times are bad.

The only time this "boyhood Celtic Fan" is at parkhead is if he gets a free invo from Sky Sports!!

Stick to your nearly men down south who you have nothing but praise for Charlie, Yourself and Wenger can have a right good moan about * all down there!!

i don't agree with anything Charlie has to say about this club as he had on many occasions a chance to give us some credit, when we where on nine and a row, but the Charlie boy, was to scared to loose his job, and never have I every heard him praise our club, so don't want to listen to him now

Celtic is Dermot Desmond's toy, he has enjoyed all the big dividends when the 60,000 rolled up at CP every second week, however his greed has now cost us two SPL titles by not crushing the Huns when we had the chance in January 2009.

Personally I would be happy to see the back of him as our major shareholder, I really can't understand why such a wealthy man could not invest with an interest free loan of 20 million to the club to get three or four class players. The fact is simple, he's in it for the money, not for the love of Celtic Football Club, he a typical moneyman.
