    Neil Lennon's comments

as reported on various pages indicate to me that he at least is honest about the situation with the Celtic squad. Give him time and he will root out the rotten eggs and overpaid and under performing "footballers" at the club. You don't need a vastly experienced manager to sus out what is wrong with this squad and put them right. Manager like Mark Hughes would be lost in the present situation - his blood doesn't run green and white! And does anyone think that the McGeady bust up that he had with Lennie when Lennie was playing, is just symptomatic of his swollen head then and his empty head now?Keep on keeping on Neil, do what needs to be done!
    Hail hail.

That to me reads or states nothing of the sort that Lennon has handed a list of names in ... Where has that idea came from.. he states some shouldn't be playing.. big difference to saying he has handed a list over and at no time did him state that.

what he says is inspiring but its what he does that counts ,i remember btm saying we were going to play like barca and look how that turned out ,but although id like to see lenny get the job because i like the guy ,i think someone with more experience would not make bad mistakes when signing people

Exactly! I stated this earlier in the thread. If I am being honest there are far to many people posting absolute nonsense on here.

For example; My 'source' has stated this, or starting another 'playground' type thread with fanciful ideas. The worst posts seem to come from those who speak in 'text' talk or who cannot start a sentence with capital letters and whose grammar is so poor the post starts to lose its coherence.

Nobody wants to visit a forum to be coached on grammar or have their views revoked, but at the same time it's not primary seven and peoples warped views don't count as fact.

I feel sorry for lenny. Top top man , who comes across very well in all his interviews.

But theres only so much he can do to motivate the players. He said in the post match county interview . you can go on about tactics and team play but if the players are lacking the hunger and will to win , its a recipe for failure basically.

thing with losing alot of players in jan.. ok tonyhad his ideas, brave move, reshape the look of the team. With this however it was too fast, we lost too many players in one go. Lads who showed passion for celtic like barry robson , skippy, mcmanus.. all gone within a few weeks. We just dont have that passion anymore with these players left. Only person id say really has it is arthur boruc and thats far from acceptable.

Another big clear out in the summer is in order , least with the summer theres time to get a team together that works.

I haven't seen any interviews with Lennon going into great detail but saw these quotes attributed to him in todays daily express.. It's spot on and after the Mowbray experiment it hopefully changes the signing policy..

"Im sick of hearing about 2 and 3 year plans.. I don't buy into it.. You've got to get results straight away.. projects are something my daughter does at school.. Im a football man and Im only interested in results , performances and players.. I don't care about two years time as I might not * be here then.. We want to get this season over and done with as quickly as possible , You've then got to get new faces in.. You've got to get the optimism back amongst supporters and get some reality back into the club.. I honestly don't care (about the players feelings).. If there is resentment and they feel I've been too harsh then I've told them they can come and knock on my door and we'll discuss it , Not one of them has come near me.. The result is an indictment on me but Im not going to let the players hide behind me"..

Lennon spoke at length with angry fans who gathered outside Parkhead waiting their return from Hampden.. "I basically wanted to placate them more than anything else.. I understood their anger , their feelings and their dissapointment.. The least I could do was go out and talk to them about the reasons why it all went wrong.. I told the players that they would have a crowd waiting for them outside the ground.. I told them (the players) that they would have to take whatever came their way and I didn't want any of them snapping back.. When you have a season like this one the players have to be big enough to take any criticism that is levelled at them"..

Lenny is a class act. I love his brutal honesty in post match interviews. He slated a lot of folk on Saturday, and quite rightly so.

To be honest, I'm not bothered that we lost 2-0 to County. In fact, it just gives us the proof that we need a major and i mean MAJOR clearout in the summer.

Give Lenny some time, given a few months and a few signings I think he will be great for Celtic football club.

I have to say I reckon Lennon is being very cynical in his interviews. He is only saying what the fans want to hear, it's almost as if he's been reading these message boards.

Fair enough he wants the job, but he simply doesn't have enough experience at the top. No amount of pandering to the fans in the press is going to get him it. Jesus if he did though, within weeks he'd be booted and it would be the biggest mistake for both him and the club we could possibly make.

He's out the cup, there's nothing feasible to play for so let's not kid ourselves that he should get this job. We need someone who's been in the management game for decades not days.

Now he is saying that because we need to get second place we can’t be doing anything silly and will have to stick by those same players. Before all this he was giving the players massive praise for winning his first couple of games and Keane was a world class player. This can’t be good for the moral of the players, they don’t know if they are coming or going.

If all managers told the truth about their players, they wouldn't have a team for very long. I thought singling out Samaras and Fortune while pandering to Keane and McGeady was pretty low.

There is truth in his words but all I'm saying is people need to stop taking his sound-bytes as if he's the saviour and can fix all these (obvious) wrongs with the team. He can play the press and fans all he wants but he will not be good enough for this job - it's too much of a risk. We have a shocking record with relatively inexperienced/young managers and Lennon should be bottom of the list of potential managers. I hope the board see that.

If they keep up with performances like that they will be GOING!!

What do you want Neil and the fans to pander to the pre madonnas tell them its ok we know you all can play football!!

Away you go with that, they get paid enough if they cant do a job there paid for then they should expect to take whatever is thrown at them!

    I have to agree.

Mowbray is a good example of trying to stick to his principles with the press, at least in the early days. I got the impression Mowbray thought it would be easy - win games, say the right things to the press that reflects the fans attitude.

However once results start going wrong you will find the media whip the rug from under your feet. I don't feel Mowbray ever coped with the red-tops even after 1 or 2 poor results.

Lennon will go the same way with me. It's all good and well playing hard ball with the media if you have the goods to back it. Very rarely can managers do this but they do become popular - SAF and Mourinho for example. But they are world-class managers.

A young upstart coming in and acting the big-dog with the media will get chewed up and spat out.

Am not saying hes good enough for the job. Am just glad someone is finally telling it like it is not just papering around the cracks its gone far enough this season.

Sammy and Costa fortune are paid to do a job there not doing they deserve everything they get.

Your right so does aiden, He thinks hes a superstar he cant even run rings round county. About time someone actually came out and slammed McGeady maybe thats exactly what he needs!

We have good enough players that should have won the league. Management let them down. Playing McGeady at left-back is a great example. TM's last game in charge was an utter shambles and I actually felt sorry for some players who were hung out to dry by the tactics.

Every player apart from a small exception (Braafheid) need to be judged by an experienced manager. Shouting that your going to get rid of any under-performers when the league, cup and europe is already over is simply shutting the door when the horse has bolted and comes across as playing to the fans and media for the sake of clinging on to a job he doesn't deserve.

    it is the mixes signals.

If he came out on saturday and said , the players where poor and had an off day, we could relate to that.
But to say the players are doing whats asked of them after the Kilmarnock game to saying they are not capable to play for the jersey and then go on to say they will paly again tonight, is all over the place

In another interview Lennon was asked if he had a list of players he wanted sold Lennon said yes but he wasn't going to tell the the journos and he'd given the list to the board.

    Lennon Interview.

Again I think Lenny talks alot of good sense hear and speaks his mind and understands it the way the fans see it :shamrock:

BBC Sport - Football - Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon challenges players

Interim Celtic manager Neil Lennon has challenged the squad to prove they are good enough to stay at the club.
Lennon warned of a summer clear-out after the shock Scottish Cup semi-final defeat by Ross County dashed hopes of winning silverware.
However, the former club captain hopes the players prove him wrong.
"Well, they've got six games to prove it," said Lennon. "It better be hurting the players because if it doesn't I don't know what will."
Lennon, who took temporary charge after Tony Mowbray's sacking, is trying to lift his squad for Tuesday's Scottish Premier League visit of Motherwell following their cup disappointment.
Celtic trail league leaders Rangers by 13 points and are only five clear of third-placed Dundee United.

I'll be judged over the next five or six games and assess it in the summer when I speak to the powers that be
    Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon
"I'm thinking about winning the next five or six games and getting closer to Rangers if we can," said Lennon.
"I want the players to prove me wrong; I criticised them, whether they liked it or not.
"I felt I said what was needed at the time and there's no point them hiding behind me.
"The board are getting a lot of criticism but the performance was nothing to do with the board."
Despite the bitter disappointment, Lennon said the Scottish Cup exit had not changed his mind about aiming to succeed Mowbray.
"It reinforces my feelings for wanting the job; I know what's required," he said. "However, I can understand the fans thinking at the minute 'he's nowhere near ready for it'.
"Again, I'll be judged over the next five or six games and assess it in the summer when I speak to the powers that be."

Well, he could hardly come out and praise them after Saturday's shambles could he?

We've got a smallish squad (by modern standards) and lack quality, so who else is he going to play? He's currently stuck with a bunch of players a lot of whom aren't good enough. He can't parachute players in, but what he's got is not good enough. Rock and a hard place time...
