Still just speculation in my opinion. Hardly a pace packed midfield either if he signed, him and Keane? Both very good but wouldn't necessarily compliment each other. Could never turn our nose up at that sort of quality but i just wonder if the money could be better spent

Malbranque, Guily, Diop, Thomson and an Argie international from Valencia all mentioned on that link's rumour mill. It's open season for all sort of nuts to speculate widely, we've had it all in previous season's, i actually remember Gravesen being mentioned prior to his Real move, it is standard. If that is the calibre you are expecting i fear you'll be disappointed

Here mate, obviously you do believe he has some behind knowledge otherwise you wouldn't be curious to check back at the thread every day. If it's a * thread then stop contributing to it, simple as.

Of course I believe in background info.

    I'm just saying that:

flump67 said there will be a massive signing, big transfer fee, big wages, so on.

But our Chief Executive and Manager have continually stated there will be no £6 million signings and state that players have to be in a certain wage structure. Doesn't add up?

So he has made up a thread with no fact in it what so ever.

Well, he had reason to believe that something of this scale would be coming off. It isn't just Flump who thinks it, others believe Mince - who told of the Riordan signing before it happened - that a big signing would come off. While a £6million signing wont come off, that doesn't mean that a big signing might wont come off. Im not saying it will, but their is no clear indication that it wont. We are all in the same boat and we know what it's like before the new season for transfer rumours. We've just got to basically believe nothing until it's finalised. All this speculation throughout this thread should come as no surprise as it happens every year. Just try to not let it get to you.

    RECORD EXCLUSIVE Strachan targets Gravesen

    By Keith Jackson

CELTIC boss Gordon Strachan is trying to pull off an audacious swoop for Real Madrid ironman Thomas Gravesen.

Record Sport understands the gritty Dane tops Strachan's summer wish list as he prepares for a crack at next season's Champions League.

Sources in Madrid confirmed to us last night that initial contact had already been made between the two clubs as Gravesen sweats on his own future at the Bernabeu.

The Spanish giants are set for a huge summer rebuilding programme but everything has been put on hold until the club's presidential elections on July 2.

Only then will final decisions be made on who stays and who goes asMadrid attempt to reclaim top spot in La Liga from bitter rivals Barcelona.

However, our sources have revealed that Real's marketing director Jose Angel Sanchez has recently been in Britain for talks with a number of Premiership clubs about possible bids for 30-year-old Gravesen, who has been a fringe player in Spain since his £2million move from Everton in January 2005.

It is believed Sanchez has also spoken to Celtic's chief executive Peter Lawwell about Parkhead being a potential escape route for the player who is frustrated over his lack of opportunities with the Real first team.

If the deal came off, it might help Stilian Petrov in his bid to secure a move away from Celtic.

Last night an insider close to the Gravesen negotiations said:

"We can confirm there has been contact with Celtic.

"We will not make any final decisions until after July 2 but perhaps the player would view this as a very good option for himto play regular football and also compete at the highest level in the Champions League."

However, Celtic would have to come up with a hugely lucrative package.

Madrid are unlikely to accept anything less than the £2m they laid out on Gravesen at a time when he only had six months left on his Goodison contract. Also, the player is reputed to be earning in excess of £70,000 a week and would have to take a vast salary cut to facilitate a move to Celtic where he could hope to earn a maximum of around £40,000.

Although the proposed deal is in its very early stages, Celtic are serious about trying to make it happen and will attempt to match whatever Gravesen may be offered from interested clubs south of the border.

Everton are believed to be keen on tempting Gravesen back to Merseyside but they will not be the only English club in the running for the signature of a player who was also greatly admired by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

SWP is unlikely at best - even then a loan signing would be our only hope for perhaps a season or less... Also I see Gravesen is thought to be on 70k a week! *! We can barely offer 40k as that article suggests and even then that is messing about our wage structure big style. UNless both Keane and Petrov wont be here next season??

Graveson? Don't think many expected that but what a signing it would be if it came off. Now it's time for the board to show if they are serious about Celtic going far in this years Champions League by bringing out the cash when it's needed.

Gravesen is a great player but i hope we don't threw daft money at him, there will be no sell on value. If Petrov leaves then we may still need a further CM because going with Lennon, Gravesen and Keane as our principal players in that area does not offer us much variety, imagine Keane was injured, Lennon and Gravesen...? I'll certainly be buoyed if it's true but will hope we don't break the bank, maybe Real will continue to pay a percentage of his wage if he is deemed surplus to requirements?

Great post. Celtic are trying to enforce their wage structure, so I doubt he'll get offered anymore than 30K a week, if even that.
