I think we are currently watching the best player ever. Obviously Maradona has achieved more than Messi (albeit Messi is only 22/23) but based on pure talent i think Messi wins and i will be lucky to ever see a player with his ability again.

Years from now we will be talking about how we saw Messi score twice at Parkhead. He truly is an exceptional talent.

    Maradona by a mile.

I'm guessing that some of the people who are voting for Messi are too young to have seen much of Maradona at his peak.

Yeah i am too young to see Maradona but I'm sort of guesstimating :icon_mrgreen:

It's hard to imagine than anyone is better than Messi and if Maradona was then , Wow.

Maradona is such a charachter aswell. His insults to Pele and the abuse he gave the Argentinian press is legendry. :icon_mrgreen:

Maradona was a total phenomenon. It was really a privilege to watch what he did in the 1986 World Cup. He basically took Argentina on his back and won the World Cup single handed. Breathtaking stuff.

What were the insults to Pele? I've never heard about this before.

Pele said something along the lines that Maradona was a bad influence on children ( because of his drugs scandal) and Maradona replied with "Pele lost his virginity to a man" :56:

To be honest its too hard to decide because I was about 3 when Maradona played his last world cup game and I think my generation will say Messi because when have been around the hype of Maradona, I've watched endless footage of Maradona but its just not the same as experience all the hype at the time he played. So i'm no going to vote.

maradona is the greatest player this planet has ever seen.messi is an oustanding footballer but i dont think theyre even close.when he played for napoli he was at his absolute peak and i doubt messi could reach that level.i mite be wrong in a few years time but i doubt it.

Too difficult for me to vote because I've only ever seen footage of Maradonna on football shows or youtube clips. It's easier to like Messi just now and think he's the greatest ever because he comes across as a quiet and genuine guy with good morals and the fact that he's playing in the present. But Messi has a bit to go before he overtakes Maradonna's achievements.

I suppose it's a bit like arguing who was better - Pele or Maradona. I'm not old enough to have seen Pele but I did see Maradona. However, given how much the legend of Pele lives on it is only fair to assume that he was an absolutely phenomenal player.

So I can understand why the younger ones are voting for Messi but having seen Maradona I definitely would give my vote to him.

Question: When you guys are thinking about who the better player was do you take into consideration factors like one player was a cheat and the other wasn't? Just curious.

Personally I tend to ignore that and just think about the ability the player had.

I'm too young to have watched Maradona but have seen videos and he was out of this world, was watching Spanish football during the week and the commentator was going on about how Messi must surely now be better than Maradona. Messi is amazing week in week out it's a joy to watch Messi i'm not gonig to stick my neck out and say one is better but one thing is for sure Messi has the potential to be the best ever player to grace a pitch and i'm sure in a couple of year people will be saying Messi is better than Maradona.
