O'dea has helped us out recently & a big thank you for that.
That said, I still think he is too hesitant at the back to hold down a first team place at Celtic nevermind Reading.
Good squad player to have at your disposal.

I've criticised him in the past but he has improved vastly the past few games. Put it this way, he can pass a football which instantly means he is a better option than our loaned out captain.

I always liked O Deas attitude, and said a while back on here,if he is a constant figure in the team,he should be captain.

Glad to see him playing well.

I think the fact he is a neat passer for a CB clouds the fact he is 1000 miles from a natural CB. Neat passing is just a bonus, its not what really matters at CB. OD can just about get away with it against the didy teams but personally I think he is out of is depth at this (or Reading) level and not much good even by SPL standards.

Personally I would try him at left back once all our CBs are fit as it then means hinkel has a license to go forward freely as odea could push over and have a 3 at the back.

he is a solid defensive leftback and plugs up that side of the field pretty well.

However, at centreback he has this weird habit of overrunning oncoming highballs, missing the clearing header, and letting it bounce dangerously behind him.... a lot of his shakiness comes from that

Well put it this way, when he walked into his press conference, he was moving faster than Thompson can * run!

Don't see it mate. Too immobile to play up and down the flank and would be too cautious in committing himself forward, while saying his solid defensive base would leave Hinkel room to be more adventurous is folly. Teams would pick up this right away and curb the threat on the right. I feel you need to have danger from both flanks.

That said, I've always been a fan of him, but I'm still not sure if he cuts it. Seems as if his progress stalled and he hasn't yet fulfilled his potential...but then he's never really been in the team long enough to do that.

I think Hooiveld and Rogne are probably our best bets at the moment. Loevens is a the white Bombscare, i.e. Tebily.

He is a tidy passer and 'gutsy' but he lacks ALL of the qualities of a CB. I have always thought in most games he (and as a knock on effect-the defence) has an 'all at sea' feel about it. Fans had an abnormal blindness to this but he now few have this distorted golden view of him. NO future as a CB for us at all. Not even sure he is as good as what most other SPL clubs have at CB.

Dont get me wrong here, i thought we were much improved against Kilmarnock.

The thing that bugged me about the defence in this game though is how many times Killie would play a high ball up the park and Thompson and o'Dea would let it bounce. Both of them seemed scared to attack the ball.

    It really annoyed me.

When i played as a kid i was always crap, but i would head anything that came near me and always tried to be first to the ball so why when these guys are supposedly professionals do they not head it into the middle of next week.

Thompson is young and needs to play alongside an experienced man, but for me O'Dea is not good enough!

he looked really gd in the last part of the season when lennon came in and he brought back a bit of steel n passion that had been missin in the team n a think if he gets a run of games then he will nail down a starting place for definate

hes a classic example of what confidence does to a player, was hopeless when he came back, but when he come on in that OF game, he changed completely and was very impressive towards the end of the season, would still like 2 top CBs though
