Who is managing the club??? lawell???

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Dirk_Diggler, Jan 16, 2010.

  1. Just been reading the sun there and found an interesting quote from robson saying " Tony actually said to me at one point that he wanted me to stay i dont know what happend or went on" now this statement got me thinking caldwells revelation in midweek about tony wanting to keep him!!!!

Are we the new hearts??? is the manager not supposed to make these desicions?? i believe tony wanted to keep these players and was told he had to sell, i also believe that ki and zeng might not be the managers signings as well,

Although i am not disapointed to lose caldwell i am disapointed to get rid of robson. we are short of central midfielders as it is and the new centre back needs to be better than caldwell or it will count as a major * up and the buck will stop with the manager, but big mjallby recommended him aparantly , so he should be decent. :50:

    thoughts ????????

  2. In fairness if a manager made all the decisions there is no doubt we'd be 20m quid in debt by now. That's why we have a Chief Executive. At this moment of time we can only give the board the benefit of the doubt that adequate cover will be coming in for Caldwell. We have to be serious - would anyone pay 1.5m to 2m for the service of half a season of Gary Caldwell, because that would effectively be what we'd be doing.

If we don't take any more CB's in I will be extremely annoyed by this, but there is half a month to go.

  3. Spot on , because if he isn't going to sign on again, whats the point in keeping him on and paying him his 10-15 k PW when you can sell, and try to raise the quality a little bit. Cover is needed right enough, but there comes a time whereby it is good business for the club

  4. i believe tony wants new players and the board has told him to sell to free wages

  5. I know what you are saying lads but my point is the chief executive or who ever have sold a player or players that the manager wanted to keep, especially robson what if ki flops ??? and we lose the league?????

Is the buck going to fall at the chief executives door??? I dont think so, the manager will take all the blame for this.

  6. no i think its TM that is making the majority of the decisions. He has said himself he is trying to get in some more players before the end of january.

Whoever came up with the idea to get rid of the players we have let go has been spot on. 7 points behind Rangers by continually playing these players we know have no imagination whatsoever proves they no longer have what it takes to be here (robbo, heid), and then theres the others who should never have been givin a contract at our club(killen, flood). The key players we're missing from last year had left before the new manager came in imo (naka, jvoh). I understand why there may be some consern to losing players who have featured so regularly in the past few weeks but I believe Mowbray will get better use from players he trusts and more importantly (as stated in the rags by those who left) players who trust him.

  7. Lawwell was the prime mover for Ki to come in, Mowbray had seen little of the youngster.

There's a balance between the football and the money side which Celtic need to strike, whether we like it or not. So, the Asian market is one which Celtic are clearly trying to develop, and Lawwell has a lot to do with the club's income revenues

Lawwell is the one who runs the club, as CEO, in the end. Mowbray will manage the footballing side, but will be influenced by the money men. Kindo of obviuous, really. Can't have one without the other.

Mowbray will take the walk if the results on the park are poor, in the end.

The manager of the club isn't Mowbray if that's what you're suggesting and I daren't think the state of the finances if a football manager ran the entire club either.

  9. dont see much wrong with that!

  10. Go back and read what Caldwell actually said in midweek, there is no 'revelation'.

Can people not see this for what it is, tabloid *?

  11. It's been very well known that the manager isn't the one in charge of most of our transfer activity since just after the MO'N era. Peter Lawwell works with the group of scouts we have to find the team new talent. Was it not a direct quote from Gordon Strachans mouth which confirmed this?

It's a plan that in a way is both sensible and stupid at the same time. Having someone who is not in charge of team affairs buying and selling our players without the managers say so can backfire, big time. But so can having a manager buying and selling players I.e Rafael Scheidt.

  12. Mowbray in the *-rag Record this morning, end of discussion for me:

Tony Mowbray denies claim of rift with Celtic board over sale of Gary Caldwell
    Jan 15 2010
CELTIC boss Tony Mowbray has denied any rift exists between himself and the Parkhead board after Gary Caldwell claimed he was sold against the manager's wishes.

The Scotland defender, 27, was unveiled as a Wigan player on Thursday after signing a four-an-a-half year deal worth close to £30,000 a week with the Premier League club.

Caldwell's wage demands meant talks over an extension to his Celtic contract broke down and he left Parkhead six months before his current deal was due to expire.

But the player has now suggested Mowbray was happy to agree his salary hike but was vetoed by chief executive Peter Lawwell and majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.

While not specifically denying there had been a difference of opinion over Caldwell, Mowbray said: "First and foremost, it should be said I've got a very strong relationship - working relationship - with the executives at the club and my chief executive, Peter, and with the major shareholder, Dermot.

"There's no animosity and nothing going on behind the scenes that anybody should try to read into."

Mowbray, who also denied Caldwell's claim that the Celtic boss had expressed a desire for him to stay, added: "I admire Gary Caldwell as a guy and as a football player.

"Yet, there was a negotiation that went on and on and never came to a conclusion to the point that he was running out of contract, a club made a bid and we accepted that bid.

"I don't think we need look too deeply into those comments.

"Certain mischievous avenues could try to create a wedge that is not there.

"I wish Gary all the very, very best. He's an excellent footballer, he's a wonderful individual and a good man.

"But it's wrong to say that there's a conflict of interest at this club with myself and my board."

  13. its a team thing all parties come together and discuss wots best, imo mogga wanted caldwell to take our offer and stay so thats the crux .

  14. (Rub eyes smiley) 30k a week for Heid thats just madness if true. No wonder the EPL is an overfilled condom waiting to burst.

  15. Typical red top guff trying to deflect the heat from der hun..

  16. No offence here but the first 6 words of the OP makes the thread lose all credibility for me
    Sorry man

  17. Tried explaining how the club operates 2 years ago but nobody would listen. Glad to see the penny finally dropping
