MICHAEL CHOPRA has told his Cardiff City pals he could be on the brink of signing for Celtic.

The £2million-rated hitman has been identified by Tony Mowbray as the quality scorer he needs to convert the chances his men create.

Now it seems the Hoops are closing in on the former Newcastle and Sunderland striker.

Cardiff fans were given the clearest indication yet that Chops could be away when boss Dave Jones reduced the former £5m man to third-choice sub in their 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool yesterday.

The player has grown unhappy at the Championship club and Celtic believe they could cash in with the Welsh side under pressure to pay off a huge chunk of a £2.7m tax bill by February 10.

:50:Sell Skippy get Chops in and his bird is * stunning :50:

He would be a goal scorer machine up here btw. Just isnt my type of player. He's like for like for McDonald.

No better than Skippy I'm afraid and he is very much like Samaras in terms of his confidence. One bad game and he won't score for weeks. We need a clinical striker who will score goals week in week out.

why one or the other why not both ?, mowbray doesnt like to play long ball anyway, get balls in behind for chopras pace, he also is a good goalscorer, think it could be good partnership that would get us goals

Just because he plays at a higher level doesn't mean he is a better player. Is Tyrone Mears better than McGeady ?

Tony has a way of finding talent on the cheap look at the lad Dorrans at West brom bought for 150k from livingston , and now worth 4million and the best central mid in the championship ,

Chopra will score for fun if giving the service ,

£2 million is too much for a player who has only had 1 good season in his career. He's already spent £4 million on Fortune and hasn't (yet) proved his worth in goals. We need to identify a regular prolific goal scorer who has done it season after season.

I never said it was bad , but it isn't exactly great either. He may score goals up here in the SPL but he is not the man to take us up a level in Europe. As i said , no better than Skippy.

a goal every 2nd game not good. In a good strong league. The league is the priority and he will score alot of goals up here. Skippy scores 20+, so if Chopra is the same level and does the same in a season i'd be happy with that.

Charlie Adam has scored about 10 goals in that league this year from midfield.
Im sick to death of us scouting the Championship. Full of Premiership rejects and has beens. There are far better players out there on the continent. Just lazy scouting as usual from Celtic.

Edit: Just seen the story is from NOTW lol :bbpd:
