to be honest, i thought given all the changes in the team, we would be closer to where rangers are now than champions

    i salute you gordon strachan...
a double in your first season, and in the face of such adversity

It was great to hear the fans sing 'there's only one gordon strachan' tonight as that is the first time it has ever been sung at CP. He has grown into the job well and he is improving all the time as a manager.

Last Summer I felt that we couldn't afford to have a manager who was still learning at the highest level as he had never won anything before and had only managed one tie in Europe before joining us. The fact he got sacked at Coventry after getting them relegated also played on my mind. And tbh this was proved correct by the Bratislava debacle and the fact he admitted that the players weren't properly motivated for the game at Clyde.

However, in a year of transition to win the double, and lose only 2 league games in the process is a remarkable achievement. And to blood youth at the same time with the likes of McManus and Maloney is the iceing on the cake.

I was a doubter, and tbh I'm still not won over 100% by him, but to win the league at a canter and bring the Championship back home is a great achievement. He has always got my backing, but he is starting to gain my trust.

Next season is the tester as Hearts will be stronger and Rangers will be almost unrecognizable under PLG. The CL will also highlight our weaknesses and it is imperative that we do better than last year. I was a bit disappointed with the signings last Summer with the likes of Telfer, Camara, Du Wei, Virgo, Aliadere and then Dublin joining in January. The prospect of Caldwell and Miller doesn't exactly excite me but I'm starting to believe in what GS is doing, and the direction we are heading in. I would like to see us sign a quality LB so Wilson can change wings, and a quality striker to partner Magic as it looks increasingly likely that Hartson is leaving. If we do this, we will be strong.

We are playing good passing football and with players like Boruc, Petrov, Keane, Naka, Maloney and Magic I feel we have the backbone to build a very strong team that can compete both domestically and in Europe. And with the likes of Wilson, McManus, McGeady, Maloney and Beattie the future looks bright and prosperous.

    Hail! Hail!

everyone is entitled to there opinion i'll be the 1st to admit i didn't think he was up to it and have since been proved wrong. i have never critisied him on forums or phone in's (don't need to give them any more ammunition) only in my circle of friends. but it was about late january i was listing to "were on the one road...." and it just clicked and i realised that to win the league you have to support the manager i phoned my mate and appolgised for my behaviour.
i don't think there are many tims who forsene this. and to ask us to refrain from celebrating is stupid. it has taken the support a full season to unite behind strachan and now you are trying to cause more division. i cant stand "i'm the biggest celtic fan" types. i suppose you have never passed judgement to quick and been proved wrong

Yeh I do apologise for any unfair criticism.

Get off yer feckin' high horse mate. ppl have a right to their opinion, and some see GS as not being ambitious enough.

some are still not convinced by his signing...but that is the freedom we enjoy...

...so enjoy the win..evry1 has a right to celebrate this fantastic achievement!

I have to comment on this - yes people have a right to their opinion but I agree with the original statement in that the people who slated WGS at the start and were asking for him to be sacked should be ashamed and yes they are entitled to celebrate to an extent - but do you not agree that if you were a WGS hater this shows that you are two faced if you celebrate what he has done at the club -

personaly I think he has done a great job this season with what he was given - he has cut the wage bill brought in some good players and is looking to the future - yes he will have a big test in the champs league next year but look at the rankers team this year they got to the last 16 the same team who are 23 points behind us in the league

so lets all get behind WGS the team and celtic football club

For the future looks bright - the future is green and white :celt_2: :shamrock: :50:

i would rather be 2 faced and man enough to admit i got it wrong. than too stubborn to back down and admit i got it wrong. i might not have liked the manager but i still renewed my book bought the new tops and gave 100% backing to the team. anyone who says i cant celebrate can go and jump in the clyde. by your laws any one who has criticised hartson can't cheer his goals. the people who thought the earth was flat shouldn't be allowed to stay here because it is in fact round. we all get it wrong sometimes.

My main fear is that certain so called fans will revert to their old ways once Strachan and the team have a dodgy patch. The recent (last 5 years or so ) booing of players and general slating in forums and phone ins of Celtic players and Strachan is unacceptable, too many glory hunting/fair weather fans at the club nowadays, Celtic fans should remember the lyrics to the songs they sing, Faithfull through and through, You'll never walk alone etc, this means sticking by the club through the hard times too.
The majority of Celtic fans are amongst the best in the world, but the minority are dragging the fans reputation down.
No matter what happens next season, I'll back the team and Strachan 100%, WGS has achieved the league in a similar way to MON, but still fans aren't fully behind him, time to get behind him and show why we won the best fans award.

well said mate i have seen the error of my ways. we can't call for the mangers head everytime we have a bad result my support for the team has never been in question and WGS has my backing through thick and thin. celtic fans should only fone radio stations if they have something positive to say(althogh you prob won't get on if you want to praise celtic). when u public critcise the club u are giving keevans and co a licence to say whatever they want and then claim it was "celtic fans" who said it don't play into there hands.

    I have to disagree.

Celtic fans should always give the team and fans their 100% backing and support but that doesn't mean that we should all agree with everything the club do. Can't I back and support the club but think that letting Sutton go in the circumstances that he did was wrong for eg?

I am not at all a WGS hater, on the contrary, I like the guy, and I agree with his Scottish youth policy 100%.
What I am * about, and what got my back up was the original thread starter, telling anyone who has criticised WGS not to celebrate our League win.....well * him!
I have criticised, as have most on here at some point, whether it be his signings or tactics, etc. That doesn't mean we hate the guy, and it doesn't make us "two faced"..it makes us PASSIONATE about what happens to our club.!

I ask you, why should people who spoke their opinion at the time feel ashamed? I think the original poster should feel ashamed for thinking he is whiter than thou:47:

I will admit that a select few went way over the top with the "Strachan must go" statements, but overall people were * about being put out of the CL so meakly.....major blow at the start of the season. As the season has gone on, Strachan has won a lot of people over, but that is part of his job, to get the team winning and keep the fans happy!

So, in future I will continue to provide my opinion on the team and how it is run, but in no way does this mean that when we get things right that I can't celebrate. Praise where praise is due, criticism when it is warranted as well......works both ways, you can criticise the manager, but still love and back CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB 100% as well.

the fans last night where astonishing, the wee party brilliant ,the result exactly what we wanted , great night, this morning ma ears where still ringing ,the amount of fans reportedly against gs has been over exagerated, though some where unhappy ,we have all rightly or wrongly vented anger or frustration on all matters ,but lets all take a step back and realise we all want whats best for our club and while last nights performance was pretty poor, we defended well and had a clean sheet against a good hearts side ,but the support still sang their hearts out and roared the team on because 'WE ARE THE GREATEST FANS IN THE WORLD' AND EVERY FAN WHO PUTS MONEY INTO THE CLUB RESERVES THE RIGHT TO PRAISE OR CRITICISE AS LONG AS IT IS CONSTRUCTIVE , this title is for everyone of us so lets all enjoy the moment, hail hail fellow bhoys :62: :62: :62: :62: :62: :62: :62: :62: :62: :62:

He is starting to gain your trust Murphy???? Did you think he was here to bring the club down or something??

Sorry mhate, just a bit confused by what you are saying.

Here's to Gordon Strachan anyway. We started the season with the aim of winning the Championship. Gordon Strachan and the lhads have given us just that!

    Hail Hail :celt_2:

I'm starting to trust his judgement, that's what I meant.

His signings (Telfer, Camara, Du Wei, Virgo, Aliadere and Dublin) and going kamikaze in Bratislava took me a while to get over.

Most signings have been good, must say mhate. I appreciate that the big test will come next year in the Champions League. I'm just glad we are in it this year!

I also have to accept that the signings you mention have not been great.

But he has grown into the job and deserves alot of credit for his achievements this season.
