Always quite liked him - has been known to cheat a wee bit at times. Good player though. Personality? Wouldn't say he'd win on blind date - he's been awarded it cos he's ready to hang his boots up. It's like honorary degrees and Oscars for services to the cinema after 50 years of making 'Made for TV' movies and supporting roles.

Good luck to him on his new job as a pundit. Or Cartoon voiceover guy.

Should have been Haye. When was last time a Brit won a heavyweight title? Hamilton won the F1 championship just recently so that kind of lessens Button's achievement imo. And as for Giggs. *! PFA player of the year ahead of Ronaldo last year and now sports personality of the year. Unreal.

Yea, it's a public phone vote. Which, as this football blog on Ryan Giggs explains, means that many people won a lot of money with this decision!

Right. Betting and the fact that boxing is a minority sport, means it's always gonna be a footballer for a big club now?

Acheivement means nothuing. Jeez, I'm sure Steve Davis (snooker's Mr. 'Interesting') won it years ago - could be wrong though.

If ever there was a winner with less personality that was him. Giggs, isn't exactly a party starter either.

    Gordon Strachan should've won.

He deserved the award for what he has achieved in football.

Button didnt do much tbh, won a F1 title with a superior car but was easily reeled in during the season when other cars became competitive.

2009 didnt really have any other standouts

In all fairnes to Giggs I would have gave him the lifetime achievement award rather than sports personality, But theres no question he deserves recognition all the same, approaching his 20th year as a manchester united player thats what you call dedication to both club and football
