The entire LoI is in a sad state, only 3 clubs are not in deep debt and they are Shamrock Rovers, Bohs and Bray Wanderers.

If you go on the wiki page you'll see first in green qualifying for the UCL, the second and third placed teams in blue qualified for Europa and the forth placed team which is Derry in red for relegation from the league.

We're not much of a league for good football but we're right up there with the Premiership when it comes to drama, that's for certain!

    Football Association of Ireland

Statement on behalf of the Board of Management

The Board of Management of the Football Association of Ireland today (November 7) took the decision to terminate Derry City Football Club’s contract to participate in the League of Ireland.

The decision to terminate is based on the failure of Derry City FC to comply with the terms and conditions of the Participation Agreement, in particular their breach of clauses 8.2, 8.3.1, 8.3.4, 8.3.5 and 8.3.6 of that contract.

The Board of Management of the FAI reached its decision following statements from FAI personnel that Derry City FC had admitted to them at a meeting of November 4 (held at the request of Derry City FC), to holding second unofficial contracts with its players. There is contractual evidence to substantiate this.

Subject to the ongoing cooperation of Derry City Football Club being forthcoming, the Board has agreed that an FAI delegation will, in the coming week, meet with Derry City FC and the various other stakeholders to consider how Derry City Football Club may participate in senior football in the League of Ireland next season, at some level other than in the Premier Division. This of course will be subject to the normal licensing process.

The forthcoming Setanta Sports Cup match on November 10 involving Derry City FC has now been postponed, pending discussions with the Irish Football Association, through the Setanta Sports Cup Committee.

On the basis of today’s decision Drogheda United will now play Bray Wanderers in the Premier Division play-off on Tuesday, November 10.

    CLUB STATEMENT
    Written by Club
    Saturday, 07 November 2009 22:02

Representatives of the Board at Derry City Football Club to include Pat McDaid Chairman, Joe W Doherty Club Secretary with Club Solicitor Desmond Doherty attended a hearing today of the FAI Board. We have previously requested the hearing be adjourned and formally objected to the hearing before it got under way. Both applications were rejected. At the conclusion of the hearing we were presented with a 6 point decision after being kept waiting in a room for over 2 hours without explanation. We were told by the FAI we have no appeal against the decision made, We were refused sight of any documentation in advance of the hearing and during the hearing. The only document produced was incomplete and was provided to us at the end of the hearing with the decision. The hearing was oppressive and in our view was like a witch hunt. The said decision was already predetermined and in our view a hidden agenda exists within the FAI in relation to Derry City Football Club as demonstrated by their behaviour today. The decision today has devastating consequences for this Club but we intend to address these consequences urgently. We are currently exploring any possibility of any type of appeal procedure within the FAI or via a court of law in Dublin or Belfast. We have not been presented with any evidence of any wrong doing on behalf of the Club or any one, or any organisation associated with the Club. It is our respectful view that the Board of the FAI should be ashamed of themselves in presiding over a completely unfair process which shows a complete lack of respect to us, our players, manager, staff, club volunteers and fans. The FAI refused to supply us with the monies we are legally and legitimately due as a result of finishing 4th in the Premier League. The FAI have also said they are considering what to do in relation to the monies we are due and owed in relation to our participation in European Soccer this season.

It's a sad day for the League, but getting players to sign 2 contracts and only 1 of them being an official contract is a joke. How did they think they would get away with it. Things are bad at Cork City FC as well but i don't think our pity of an owner Tommy No Bobs would even try that. Now for our punishment.

They called off the game against Celtic because they were unhappy with our travelling party, which they knew full well was taking place during a period of internationals, so I could not care less about them tbh.

Shame, the LOI is trying to get rid of the two long road trips in the league, and centralise it to Dublin and it's suburbs!

Celtic had agreed to play 2 friendlys as part of the Paddy McCourt deal which i though was a joke in itself. Expecting us the fans to fund the transfer of one of our star players, but then for celtic to have the cheek of sending a weak reserve team i think our chairman made the correct decision to call it off!

As it stands our LOI licence has been terminated so we're effectly a club with no league to play in. Hopefully we'll get a place in the first division next year and start again. We still have a few hundred thousand of debt to pay so * knows whats going to happen to us.

thats a non starter imo, We were up at the Linfield- Derry match in the setanta cup last month, Some of the stuff bieng shouted between sections of each side would make the old firm matches seem calm.

Its a strange situation, I do think a return to the Irish league would be a backward step, I know most of the big clubs down south are skint but the quality of football is far better. Glentoran getting beat 6-0 at home in the Irish league yesterday for example, could you see anyone even in scotland bar Celtic of course lol put 6 past Bohs or Derry City for that matter, No.

I'd say Stephen kenny will be back on his travels again tho, Any jobs going in Scotland?? :)

Said state of affairs up there, I've been up twice, and escorted from the ground twice, for singing songs of course, but I agree non starter about the Irish League return.

They'll get bricked going everywhere, including Solitude!

Good for them.... they owed Dungannon £30k for Mc Ginn... and we gave them £200k up front for him so they should have give Dungannon the money they owed!

Sad to see. Never like to see a good football club in serious trouble like this so hope they can recover.
