    the board

    oh dear lol

So are u happy the way things are just now? just aslong as we're debt free, thats all that matters?..possibly sacrafice trophies and titles, in turn so we can boast that our future isnt as ropey as rangers'??

Btw i'm writing this as celtic are getting beat 2-1 to falkirk..but that doesnt matter eh because ....we have zero debt!!

The trouble with the january window is that there never seems to be an abundance of players up for grabs. It wouldnt surprise me if little or nothing happens and we are stuck with what we now have and the board sit with their fingers crossed in the hope that we stumble to the title in May.Lets face it they dont really have any ambition anyway :31:

Where exactly did I say I was happy with the standards at present? I think you will find I have stated on numerous occasions that investment in the squad is required, however, I live in the real world and have realistic expectations of what Celtic can and can not afford.

Just because I'm realistic about the financing of the squad doesn't mean I'm happy with the standard, I suggest you try reading and understanding my posts before being so dramatic in your replies.

They are probably half way down the third page of excuses right now and with Mowbray's choice of players i don't blame them.

haha dramatic..Think defensive comes to mind instead.!

I'm just saying that if a hand isnt raised, and questions arent asked then the board will quite happily keep taking advantage of people like you..after all, the less they can manage to spend each year the bigger the dividends for the shareholders..

Since you live in the real world,..tell me what your realistic expectations are then? since u take a keen interest in economics etc..

here's a suggestion for yourself, open your eyes!, and climb of your perch.

I can see the deficiencies in our team quite easily, I don't think all is rosy and I can clearly identify where we need improvements, a blind man would be able to tell you where our team needs to be strengthened.

Realistically I think we'll get rid of a few of the fringe players but there will not be a huge clear out of players.

January is not a good time to be looking for key personnel as most teams are not happy about selling their players in January unless they really have to.

Realistically I would hope we would do our best to get a commanding CB in (we need two but I'll be satisfied if we get one) I also hope that we will strengthen the striking options in the team, although 30 goal a season strikers is even harder to find within our budget so I'll be satisfied if we get one on loan for 6 months to see us through to the summer.

I can't see us bringing in anymore than 2 players so if we strengthen those two areas of the team then I'll be satisfied (along with the Korean lad if we get him).

I've stated all of this before and if you had bothered to look you would have seen my opinions on what I think needs and will be strengthened in January.

Also note the use of the word satisfied and not happy.

The board hasn't taken advantage of me, if I can't afford something I don't buy it, I make my own choices on games attended and merchandise bought based on my own circumstances not what the board says or does.

Celtic haven't paid ordinary dividends, the preference shareholders receive dividends but that rate is fixed no matter how much profit is made so no shareholder has received dividends because Celtic did not invest in the playing squad.

this is a good point. the board has been taking the * out the fans for years. since larsson left the team got worse and worse yet celtic fans being the way they are they kept stepping up to the plate every year with their money for season tickets despite the * that was being served up on the pitch. only now are the fans - in large numbers - questioning the job the board is doing for them.

sure, there will always be fans like dhannigirl who'll turn up whatever, fine, thats their choice, but the problem is that lots of other fans, about 30,000 of them to be precise, of which i'm one, will exercise their choice to find something else to do with their £500 a season. when i see the same level of financial commitment from certain board members that is taken for granted from people like me i might consider going back.

Will you go back only if the board spends more or would you be back if we went on a long winning run with the current squad?

if this current celtic team were playing out in my back garden i'd go and close the curtains. i've no interest at all in watching 2 crap teams battle it out in a war of attrition for a title that nobody outside scotland cares about.

celtic fans - thats you and me - deserve so much more than this. we should see our team competing every year at the business end of european tournaments - seville should not be a once in 30 year event for a club of this size, stature and fan base.

I think Strachan left TM with a better team than MON left Strachan with! I do think the team has went backwords too so i would say last year's team (bad as they were) are better than the current bunch!

I'd be surprised if we signed two players in January.

Strachan was left with an ageing team, but a team with a lot more quality than the team Mowbray was left with.

I don't think we've went backwards from last year, I think we are just as bad as we were last year.

I've nothing against Strachan so this isn't having a pop at him as in previous seasons he managed to get more out of the players, but last season showed he couldn't get the same levels out of them as previously so it's a bit unfair to say Mowbray can't get the best out of them either.

I think the board need to invest or finally face the full wrath of the Celtic support, I am also a season ticket holder (four in total in my immediate family) and none of us will be renewing our season tickets if we don't see at least four new players in January, and I don't mean token signings such as Willo Flood.

We're just all totally ticked off listening to Peter Lawwell and his empty promises, we'll buy match tickets for certain games, but will not give Lawwell and Desmond our £2120 in June, we won't be fooled again by the moneymen.

I get the feeling that a great many season ticket holders that sit around us are feeling exactly the same, we feel the club fleece us for every penny possible, yet when we ask for reasonbly talented players we're told they're out of our league. Well you can't have both ways Mr Lawwell, you either reduce season ticket prices based on the standard of player curretly on view, or you buy a higher standard of player and keep your season ticket members happy, if not the numbers attending Parkhead will definitely fall next season.

Agree with parts of that but I don't think the team Strachan was left with had alot of quality in it! Strachn had to bring in the likes of Maloney and McManus, Beattie and Wallace from nowhere as they hardly featured under MON!

Im sure he's signed a contract to say he's coming in January (the end of his team's season) but I may be wrong!

rest assured, there are tens of thousands of season ticket holders out there who like you are at tipping point. i got there 6 months ago. collectively we have huge muscle and influence at the club, its just we don't use it. if we are a bit more militant and organised we can bring about change and improve things - but if 50k + keep turning up for home games it'll just carry on as it is.

one small point tho on your earlier post - the club didn't get in any debt to pay off fergus mccann - that transaction was just between the outgoing shareholder (fergus) and the incoming shareholder (desmond) i.e. the money went from desmond to fergus and bypassed the club altogether.
