mowbray has said he will spend in january. im sure we would all rather he bought only 1 or 2 decent players rather than the normal pish that we sign.

if you had the choice of a decent comanding strong and reliable central defender or a prolific natural 30+ goals a season striker, which one would you go for?

striker ..we have seen what that defence is capable of and odea is coming back which is like a new signing samaras isnt worth a place on the bench

id go for a better striker as i think the defenders we have just now are better at their job than the strikers are at theirs just now.

Ideally both obviously but given the choice it would have to be a striker who can score goals. You can't win if you can't score and we struggle these days to score from open play. As long as we get 1 more than them its all good.

I think our problem this year will be that we will leak goals everywhere and it's just going to come down to us scoring more than the other team, which we are capable of most of the time if we don't concede early! So I chose Central Defender.. Great thread btw!

Goals wins games, we need someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net.

You are living in lala land if you think that they are lying around on the cheap and that nobody else in world football has spotted them. Same goes for quality defenders.

I hate these stupid polls about how managers should spend the clubs money whilst ignoring reality.

    a prolific 30 goal a season striker.... * me :56:

I'd rather like and actually Id expect Mowbray to be doing better with what he's got. He has several players underperforming for no other reason than what seems to be bad man management. I'd like for him to prove that he can get the best out of current players before he's allowed to blow the clubs money when may not be able to get the best out of players

your the one in lala land if you think that finding someone to score 30+ in the spl is really that difficult.

its not but finding someone that

    • Celtic can afford
    • Will accept the wages
    • Can get a work permit
    • Family wants to move to Scotland
    • Play in the SPL
If you think that you can get a player that fits all that criteria whilst no other club in a bigger/better league thats able to offer better money whilst offering better living conditions than wet and miserable Scotland comes in with an offer then you are the one in lala land my friend.

both would be perfect but i feel that the manager should always be looking to strengthen the weakest areas of the team and that undoubtedly is at cb in our team; with odea out on loan, mick playing poorly, loovens only slightly better and heid mouthing off to the media at every possibility we really do need 1 (if not 2) new cb's though i would be happy if we just got 1 classy cb who had no pretensions that he can play football; either that or get one who can actually play a bit!!!!!

i think we could afford somebody that can score against the likes of st mirren, st johnstone etc. and the bit about the family, many footballers and their families live appart. as for the weather, if we can get someone from cameroon and guinea to the lovely climate of glasgow then i dont think it would be too hard to find someone that experiences the rain a bit more than these guys, and scotland has some of the best living conditions compared to what else may be on offer on mainland europe or where ever, especially if your on £20k odd a week.

And what about the fact that they could also get paid more playing in a better league. The SPL wouldnt inspire many and for example, Loovens chose Celtic last summer because we were in the UCL, Rangers werent. That was the deciding factor, imagine if we tried to sign him this season, he'd most likely have signed for Rangers. Thats what we are up against, 30+ goal a season strikers arent growing on trees and neither is quality experienced defenders ripe for Celtic to sign. Its pure fantasy.

No matter what Celtic offer, a lower Prem team can come in and double it. They have a better league, a better standard of living (outside of Glasgow there is * all up here) and more TV coverage so more chance of national football etc. Buying players for Celtic is about compromise, we just need to find what we are willing to give up.

we have a prolific striker, we just don't have a partner for him.
we need one though we really need that defence sorted.
Not only that but we just spent 4mil on a striker, if he's not the answer then we have problems.

yes the EPL has better teams and much more money, and sometimes players only come here because they can play in europe and are practially guranteed some kind of silver wear a season but if you are a striker, stay relatively injury free for a season and get first team pick week in week out, and you dont score around the 30 mark then your not good enough, especially for celtic, or rangers for that matter, teams who dominate possession and chances in virtually every game they play. we dont need a world beater to score one of the four or five chances they get a game.

It's not a striker we need as we have plenty of them.

We need a commanding quality centre back who can padlock our back defence.
