if it means saying good bye to champions league and european nights i dont see the board or fans going for it really because even teams like villa are desperate for the champions league fix so after a few years in prem we would be desperate for euro football and its been said that a move would rule out euro football ever again

Some sort of restructure in Scotland or the dream of a set of British super-leagues are the only answers.

celtic have an international fan base so there is nothing wrong with having an international team

If we stick with the SPL as it is we are going to slide further and further. We are no longer certain of Champions League football every year, which puts a considerable chunk of out income at stake. The SPL itself is also too weak financially to support us and our ambitions.

You cannot compete at the top table without the money to back it up. You need the money nowadays. In England we'd have access to more money, more commercial possibilities and a better pool of players. Lets make no mistake, we are one of the biggest clubs in the world, only Man Utd are bigger than us in Britain. That is a lot of untapped potential, in both football and commercial terms.

It's a question of ambition. Do we want to be the best out of a bad lot and fall away from European football with the rest of the country, or do we want to compete and succeed in a League with substance and give ourselves the chance to really compete at the top level?

I can't believe some folk wish to cling on to the clydesdale bank spl even if the situation arose where celtic had the option of competing in the epl??? You've got to be stark raving mad not to see the potential that audience could benefit our club. Seriously, its got * all to do with losing our identity because that is ingrained in the fibre of our being & would never be lost, only reinforced. I hold no centimental value for the spl, its a constant weight around our necks! Remember the song 'celtic first, celtic last & celtic over all'. Are people frightened of failure or competing in a competitive league?? I want to see celtic with world class players & fans with smiles on their faces. Might give the young scottish players a chance to play first team football with other teams, instead of being snatched by the old firm reserves & spend years waiting for a chance only to be replaced by cheap foreign imports. I've yet to hear a good argument for staying in a dead end league only 'We don't wanna join the ENGLISH' which is a pathetic excuse tbh. I would give my left nacker to watch a decent celtic side!

Something doesn't seem right about this? Maybe its this - 2 Scottish teams playing in the EnglishPL? Forget the money, were quick enough to hurrle abuse at english clubs because of the money they rake in off sky etc (rightly so) so lets hope we don't get caught up in this. All we need is the reputation of the SPL to get back to where it was 10 - 15 years ago and money and better players will start appearing for all teams. Celtic and Rangers joining the epl is like Novo wanting to play for Scotland, wouldn't want it to happen and can't happen.

No, it won't. The players Celtic and Rangers had 10-15 years ago would not have came here if the EPL had the money is has today. The EPL is only going to get bigger and the SPL smaller.

We have reached the ceiling as far as Scottish football goes, and now we are regressing under the pressure of English growth. We cannot grow domestically or abroad anymore, because there is no more room for growth up here.

We cannot be govered by nostalgia or a fear of change. The future lies in England.

Just a quick response for those who believe that starting in the Championship would be a step down.

    1. More TV monies than the SPL

    2. Better teams

    3. Better grounds

The Championship is a hugely competitive league, I believe the 4th best supported in Europe. I've been watching Championship level football for the best part of 10 years and the standard has improved a * of a lot in that time.

Whilst Celtic would do well, It'd be far from the cakewalk some might expect.

I don't know what you're on about here.
Are you saying the Scottish teams in 1st and 2nd and 3rd Division don't have the opportunity to get promoted to SPL?
My point was that adding more canon fodder with poor funds and insufficient infrastructure to SPL is not going to make SPL any better.

    let´s all do the huddle..
i would like to see us in the epl2. celtic is a big name in international football even if we play in a shithole like the spl... imagine what kind of player we could get if we promote to the epl...

also in terms of tv money and sponsorship our club would grow...

i think we could be a vital title candidate after 5 - 6 years in the epl... fans in asia and all around the globe would go crazy when they see tv pics week in week out from thousands of celtic fans singing and dancing in the "no atmosphere" epl... a lot of money then would come in from merchandising in asia. :celt_2::shamrock::50:
