i thot when gordon strachan left we'd have seen the last of caldwell playing as a holding midfielder but mowbray played him there against hapoel.

heid should niver be playing there. he's not mobile at all. he's far to slow to be in there. he got a 7 in the sun against hapoel, i have no idea what game they were watchin.

i cant understand why he crosas was'nt playing with nguemo as the holding midfielder.

it seems that caldwell gets the nod because he's more physical.

he played a good ball for the goal but i hope thts the last we see of heid in the midfield

I said it time & time again on here, we've got midfielders queueing up to play in the first team for celtic, now hopefully TM will now realise this error & not waste a player like heid in the midfield ever again!

Aye it was a strange one. :43:

Would have been better with Crosas in there. He's quicker and a better passer.

Then again we should have had no one in that position and played with 2 up front.

Never mind. Bring on the Hearts!!!

To be fair Neil Lennon is the best holding midfielder Celtic have had in many, many years and I've seen milk turn quicker than he could. dunderHEID is faster than Lennon was so I don't think you can use that against him although Neily did read the game a lot better than dunderHEID and that helped him a lot.

I agree with your general point though. I don't like seeing dunderHEID playing in midfield either. :38:

Bullshit, we have won many games with Heid in midfield. The most memorable being away to Rangers where he set up the goal, so don't just make up stuff to prove a ridiculous point.

Heid has been played in midfield to add height, dig, and arieal ability to a midfield that lacks all 3.

Caldwell needs to stop thinking he's some sort of Beckenbauer type who can play football and just concentrate on defending, he doesn't have the quality to play in midfield against decent opposition.

At the moment probably not. I can't believe TM let O'Dea go on loan, he's as good as anyone else we've got.

I'm struggling to realize whether he's good enough for our defence, never mind midfield.

I've got no problem with Heid playing just in front of a back two, thought that wasn't a bad idea but the thing is you can't have him playing there and being the guy looking for the ball forward. He should be a good stopper in midfield then dish it off to someone with vision, which we didn't have last night. You either play Heid with Crosas and Broony in midfield or your play N'Guemo with Broony and Crosas, you can't have three of them there who can't pick out a pass in less than 10 seconds.
And another thing, we shouldn't be playing that formation against Hapoel Tel Aviv home or away! Fair enough, they weren't a bad team but the few times we came forward they didn't deal particularly well. I know TM wanted to play the counter-attack game with them but you can't do that with Heid being the one to distribute forward. We had three ball-winners in the center of the park and no-one to move it forward. Maloney had to come in to the center-circle just to touch the ball half the time!

His passing is an asset at centre mid but he's not quick enough to play there most of the time. With that much space behind him he's beaten for legs more often than not.

I think he is mobile enough to play in the midfield but he can't get himself out of defender mode. He isn't and never will be a midfielder.

Brilliant defender but just not a midfielder, how many managers is it going to take

i was hoping that after 3 years of heid being tried in midfield and it not working, we might not see it again. ah well heres hoping TM realizes it doesnt work at all.
however i think by far our most worrying flaw is noone can hit a decent ping from outside the area, every single player lacks power or placement, which is why we ended up trying to escort the ball into the net last night.

If he cant play in midfield where else is he gonna play coz he aint a quality centre half decent yes but quality no and its quality thats required for europe. He has had some good games in midfield but recently being found out imo.
