Right guys hope you can help me out here.
i currently have a HP compaq nc4010 laptop not the best in the world, just used it for word processing n basic stuff.

well i got a bit friskey one day and downloaded the windows 7 build 7100 and basicly installed it over the
windows xp that was it, now im selling the laptop and need to put it back to xp proferstional, but when i try to re-install
i get a message about a compatability issue, as apparently you cant downgrade.

another problem i have is that my laptop doesnt have a cd drive, so i have a portable one, so booting from start up
    wont work.

Hope you guys can help me out here

    Thanks

Only thing i can think of is to put XP onto a USB and try to boot from USB. Not sure if it'll work though.

At the moment are you able to boot from the CD drive? At what point do you get the error message?

I think Raz suggestion is the best though, you need to get a copy of XP onto a USB and set up the BIOS to boot from the USB device.
