I was curious to know whatever happened to Liam Miller after his promising start at Celtic, so I was reading through his career profile, here`s a brief summary:

+ He starts a very promising career at Celtic. Has some great games for the reserves and first team in the Champs League and is hailed by MON as one of our best young players. He leaves Celtic for Man Utd on a free after knocking back MON`s new contract, sticking two fingers up at the club and fans afer they nursed him through a long term injury.

+ Alex Ferguson doesnt play him and goes on loan to Leeds, does ok at Elland Road and eventually moves to Sunderland on a free.

+ He scores 3 goals in 57 apps for Sunderland, does not too bad but Roy Keane gets sick of his bad attitude (thats saying something lol) and tells him to * off.

+ He signs for QPR and 6 months later they tell him to * off and he is released.

In between all that he`s played for the Republic of Eire.

He`s now 28 and a handful of lower league clubs are sniffing about him.

I reckon he would have achieved a lot with Celtic, but he chased the money and when Alex Ferguson called he ran to him. Bit of a waste I think.

He's a * and it just shows how stupid chasing money can be when you alredy have a promising future and his idiotic career moves should always be a warning to promising young Celtic players coming through.

Yeah the guy looked like he could have been something untill he left to go to Man U.

Like Bhoy92 said, it will hopefully warn any other up and coming young players at Celtic that the grass isn't always greener in the EPL.

He can't say O'Neill never warned him. He told him to stay for 1 more season then pick his club if he wanted to leave.

He also made comments about the club when he moved to Man Utd, "it's like moving from schoolboy football to professional football" something along those lines.

maloney did the same didnt he? we brought him back whilst injured and at a value of 2.5 million - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Liam Miller was an emerging talent that could have been a star midfielder for us for a couple more seasons after his injury ravaged early career with us

in defense, footballers all have big egos and if they didnt they wouldnt be worth much. If Man Utd come calling you go, and not one single player currently at Celtic Park would say no if it had happened today. You believe you will make it into the first team and, of course, you would see a wage of 20K per week (which was widely reported at the time) and realise that for the length of contract and signing fees etc it would make you a millionaire. Now, I defy any person on this site to say they would knock back a job offering financial security for life in order to stay loyal to the company they work for right now. Remember the boy had come through a serious injury and this would no doubt pllay a role in his thinking when offered a 3 year deal with wages that would set you up for life nad if you got injured you would not haave to worry about income. Not one of us could deny someone that choice.

For us, we are brought up as fans of the club in a life long bond and we find it difficult why anyone would want to leave us or refuse to sign for us. Footballers dont think that way anymore when there is so much money available. Do not doubt for one moment that if a club from the mid tier upwards in the premiership down south offered silly money in transfer fees, or if available on a Bosman with 40 or 50 K a week, one of our current heroes would not be off like a shot, they will look after themselves.

I was gutted when he left cause he was really coming on to a game at that point. I remember game against Dundee Utd where him and MacNamara totally ran the midfield, with Petrov pushed further on. They were like a really pasty version of Xavi and Iniesta that day! Looked as if we'd be totally sorted when Lambert retired, cos Miller would drop right in there in his place. But from what I've heard Celtic weren't really his team, he was a Man Utd fan, so * as it was, the way he left, I don't think you can blame him for thinking that might be his only chance to play for his boyhood team.

Miller only done what any young lad would do when Man Utd come calling anyone who believes otherwise are deluding themselves. It's a pity his career has went on a downward spiral since his move he could well have been a tremendous footballer given the right guidence, unfortunately for him it wasn't forthcoming.

Was a good wee player with us, he made a choice to leave i don't think anyone can grudge a player that option. But he was just establishing himself as a first team regular so was a bit of a gamble that ultimately never paid off. I for one Wouldn't have him back, can't see him keeping anyone out the team & we've got our fair share of short arses already, a bit a height wouldn't go a miss. Good luck to him tho.

What you also forget was that Maloney was actually half decent at Villa.
He got injured and Ashley Young took his chance and as they say the rest is history.
With regards to Millar; he was an emerging player with some talent. I remember the Juventus game at Celtic Park (I think it was Juve) when Larsson and Sutton gave him high praise.
I said then that he should have stayed another year and then looked at it because he was dreadfully out of his depth at United.
The point of footballers chasing money is moot, and he won't be the first and he won't be the last.
All I will say is he Scots/Irish from our league who have gone south haven't ripped up many trees with the possible exception of James McFadden who for some reason preferred Birmingham to staying at Everton. There was whispers that he was a bit of boy and like a sherbet or to!!:52::52:
