Latest news: apparently we'll be wearing red tops, blue shorts, blue socks. Somewhat closer to our regular third colours.

Something else I'm wondering about: has it never occurred to you that voluntarily finishing the match at CP with a man down (and it was another 20 mins or so!) would have been rather daft? Weinhofer didn't come back on, and we had already brought on the allowed number of subs before the incident. (Think it was only two back then.) And it's not as if we had given up the game; IIRC we missed a huge one-on-one chance in the last minute of the game or so; and a goal still would've taken us into extra time.

Luke, I don't know, where you've read this statement, the spokesman of Rapid Vienna, Mr. Sharif Shoukry announced today in an interview with the scottish Sun (Frank rants could spark a riot | The Sun |Home Scotland|Scottish Sport|SPL) that Rapid makes every effort to calm down the situation.

Rapid will play in red dresses but blue shirts and blue socks.

I don't know, if this calms down the situation, as blue might be like a red rag to a bull to the celtic fans either, but unfortenately there are no other colours for Rapid Vienna...

Yeah just read that a couple of mins ago and edited my post accordingly. The original statement was on DerStandard yesterday, also by our spokesman. Anyway, it's either blue, red, or blue and red, and all of it is of course intended to incense the Celtic faithful ...

[Edit:] May I add that had it really been our intention to provoke you then surely we wouldn't have changed shorts and socks.

Rapid aren't doing so well in their league so I wouldn't be too worried

    They're 5th with 12 points from 7 games

I hope all the young hotheads who are buying into this wind up realise why it is being done, and we better behave ourselves next week

most of the guys aged 34 and less will not remember it clearly - even if some were at the game as youngsters, and whilst it was the most despicable act of blatant playacting in order to get us banned we must remember a couple of things

    1. A * idiot Celtic supporter lobbed the empty half bottle and we cant deny that (allegedly there were other missiles that night thrown from our own support)

    2. When we were ordered to replay the game, the board saw pound signs instead of pride and should have told UEFA to shove it up their arses. Man Utd, Liverpool and Everton had offered their support and there was talk of others protesting should Celtic have been forced out of the competition

the fact that we didnt pull out leaad to the further shameful drink fuelled pitch invasions and poisonous atmosphere at Old Trafford. We had to leave early as Celtic fans fought amongst themselves - it was a shameful episode in our proud history

so, by all means boo Rapid for who they are, but remember that the actions of a solitary Celtic fan caused this ridiculous situation and the limp wristed spankers who ran our board did not stand up for the club.

the media would looooooooooove our support to lose it next week to try to put a blemish on our proud recognition of being one of the best supports in Europe. Recently we have had fans on the pitch with DIDA and there was another one too

so lets all calm down, Frank McGarvey is on his downers and needs the publicity, so he should put a lid on it. we shall boo them and beat them at football and hold our heads up high.

That link is deliberate, wilful baiting as no one at Rapid claims he was hit by a bottle. This 'bottle-throwing incident' has developed into some kind of myth on both sides.

As I quoted earlier, Weinhofer himself says: 'an object hit me on the head, I don't know what it was. I was dazed/dizzy, had a bleeding cut and only regained full consciousness in the dressing room.'

Never said it was a bottle; and he went down way before the bottle even got into his sights.

So, either he's a liar and wasn't hit by anything, then we're all shamed. Or he tells the truth and a coin or other small object hit him, and you're very bad losers. Being a Rapid supporter I believe him. You won't.

what if one of ours dives to win a penalty?

does someone diving or celebrating in front of us give us carte blanche to behave like lawless hooligans?

believe me i will be booing my face off at them next week for they cheated us and made me late for the U2 gig at the barrowlands that night.

equally though the scumball who chucked the bottle is the real culprit - he caused it and the chain of events.

The man himself never claimed it. Sadly I don't know who first came up with that frankly idiotic bottle claim. I'd suspect it was some Austrian tabloid journo aiming for a catchy headline. From there on, the 'bottle-throw' has entered Austrian lore. As Scots are known for drinking whisky, it's a whisky bottle, usually.

Rapid's main complaint was that they were forced to finish the match a man down as we couldn't bring on another sub; and afaik that was the reason for the re-match. For my other views, read #117 on this thread.

Celtic and Rapid should probably install a joint 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission' like they did in South Africa ...

m8 watch the video without being biased . he turns round walks away thinking about it then gose down . nothing touched him there was nothing anywhere near him .

don't you think that many people have looked at that tape if somthing hit him somone would have slowed the tape and seen it.

your players were screaming for the game to be abandoned even before the guy went down.

you cheated and that is it you have no point to make .
