Now, whenever a band appears live on Jonathan Ross they tend to make some slight changes to whatever song they're playing.

I wanted to know, what do you think of these changes? Do they improve the song or what?

I was thinking about this because of a video of Editors performing The Racing Rats on Wossy's show (* you Mitchell!! :icon_mrgreen:)

In this case they add violins so the song. IMO this improves the peice but I can think of many occasions when a band has disappointed me on Woss - The Killers for example put more emphasis on the instrumental in Human than the vocals and it ruined the song for me.

well i think when bands are playing live they tend to change the song a wee bit anyway so it might just be that or beacause they cant do stuff the did on the recording live

Yeah, but do you think that, in general, changes make songs better live?

    You love it mate!

The only time I can think of the Editors adding violins was when they did the Electric Proms, maybe they appeared on the Jonathan Ross show round about the time of that.
Bands do tend to change sometimes if they are doing a one off show like that.

Like a song better when I hear it live and most of the time the changes improve it because it doesn't sound as ordinary if you're used to hearing the recorded version all the time.

There are certain instances where changes to songs improve them when played live. It also gives the audience something a bit different and new to listen to. But there are certain parts of songs that wouldn't work live if they were changed. For example, you wouldn't change the opening riff of Sweet Child O' Mine but you could easily improvise part of the guitar solo.

The Killers version of Bling at TITP is absolutely epic, as is their version of Human they did for the MTV music awards and their acoustic version of Sams Town and Smile Like You Mean It :icon_mrgreen:
