Now before anybody says im being negative im not . Im hopeful that we might turn it around against arsenal with an early goal but if we dont its the europa league for us and with teams like AS Roma, Lazio, Benfica, Valencia, Villarreal, Werder Bremen, Shaktar Donestk, Zenit St Petersburg, Galatasaray, Fenerbache the competition certainly doesnt lack quality. So would you be happy with the consolation of The Europa League and a good long run in it??? Also Everton,Aston Villa and Fulham will more then likely be in it so would be nice to have a crack off them also.

yes. any competition outside of scotland is good. hope we can do good in europa league and think it will give the team a feel good factor and we could possibly get everyone playing their best season with us.

The champions league is all about the top4 in the epl, barce, madrid, inter, milan.

They might as well play amongst them selves.

The Europa League has some quality teams in it this year plus 3 premiership teams should also be in the group stages (Everton, Aston Villa, Fulham) so would be nice to have a go off one of them.

yep a nice run would be good but I still think getting our title back and rebuilding the team for next years champions league should be our priority.

No doubt mate that winning the SPL and gaining automatic entry into next seasons Champions League is the main aim. But as regards europe thsi year i would be happy with the europa league. We would get plenty of games and the players would gain very valuable expierence from it playing against a host of different teams.

To quote Artur Boruc, would Usain Bolt pull out the olympics to race in a high school 100m? Of course he wouldn't, every single sportsperson wants to compete at the highest level possible and in football that is the Champions League.

I am excited about the prospect of having a run at the Europa League. With a bit of luck I think we could do really well in it. My one concern would be that if we go far in it we will have to play a lot of matches. I would hate to see us fail to regain the SPL title due to having played too many games in Europe. The league is the absolute No. 1 priority for me this year.

:50::50: exactly, at the end of the day does anyone really care about winning this if it affects our title chance, because the filth will be busy getting humped in CL we would have invaluable rest time. Also financially its not that benaficial i would not of thought or am i wrong?

No doubt a club like Celtic should be playing Champions League football every year but The Europa League has plenty of quality teams in it this year and teams that have regularly played in The Champions League so it wouldnt be a bad competition to play in. Saying that The SPL is our main aim this season of course.

any money is better than no money, and a good run in the europa league would give us both money, and pride. even though its 2nd to the champions league, its still a competition that is suited perfectly for us. we're just not a champions league contender at all. celtic in the champions league is like the team that comes 17th in the premiership. at the end of the day, i would love to see another european trophy in the trophy room of parkhead, and im sure anyone else would too

we've got enough players to be safe for squad fitness if we get far in europa league, the only danger would be defence i would imagine. we dont have alot of options there, but midfield and up-front we're pretty much over-stocked.

I never really expected us to qualify for the CL year, what with two qualifying rounds to get through. Let's face it, after the 0-1 result against Dinamo, who really 100% believed we'd win 2-0 away to get through to the last qualifying round?

So in that respect, facing Arsenal could be a wee bonus, a chance for the team to play- twice- top quality opposition. Remember we have a new manager, some new players, a new style, and as long as we don't suffer a tanking next week, it can only be good for the lads having faced a team as slick as Arsenal.

For the above mentioned reasons- new team, new players, new style- I do think the Europa League will be a good platform for Celtic this year. It'll give the manager and team a chance to find their style, hone it, and hopefully be prepared for an assault on the CL next year, after we win the SPL.

So yeah, I'd be very content with a decent run in the Europa League. Some good teams in there. I'd really like to get Aston Villa as one of the group opponents.

    Hail Hail

well it might not be the best example, but when jose mourinho was manager of porto, he led them to winning the UEFA cup, and then the following season won the champions league with them.

would be good getting aston villa in europa league though.. caldwell vs carew round 2 hahaha
