    Portsmouth have given up hope of signing Celtic's John Hartson after a second approach for the Welsh international striker was rejected.


    The SPL leaders turned down a £1.2m bid last week and said the 30-year-old was not for sale at any price.

    Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric told BBC Scotland: "There is nothing further we can do. Hartson will not be coming.

    "The situation is simple; Celtic gave us a definite no and we will now have to look elsewhere."

    Mandaric said that he had not had the chance to speak to the player, who has 18 months of his contract left to run at Celtic Park.
    "We respect Celtic's decision," added the Pompey chairman.

    thank * im not big johns biggest fan but we need him for now with beattie injured maloney not being an out an out striker magic coming back to fitness and dion dublin who hasnt scored in 14 starts for leicester i was worried

    Still speculation about him going tomorrow though, we need some positive news from Parkhead that BBJ is staying, other sites are saying he goes 2morrow for £2.5m, does anyone have some solid truth in this one, at this stage in the season we can't affort to * things up again.

    im not a fan of the big man and if pompie offered 2.5 mill around 2 weeks ago i would have said yes so we have time for a new striker but since we have only one day then no chance (unless WGS has something going on)

    I think he could be off in the summer but i'm glad he's staying for now. I'm hoping he will go on a run and hit 125 goals, Fingers crossed.
