Well I'd hate to get caught up in another Strachan debate so I'll keep this short.

No genius perhaps but that's a pretty harsh paragraph considering he took us further (twice) than another other manager for decades(?).

Maybe he was smarter with his tactics than us humble mortals think? I mean you can't just go swashbuckling into places like the San Siro, Old Trafford, Nou Camp or even Moscow. If we goto Moscow and play so expansively that we're effectively giving the ball away every 5 seconds then we will be punished. Let's beat in mind this team is no pushover, come from a difficult country to travel to and are 15+ games into their season.

If strachan was still in charge for wednesdays game with the squad he left and the form we were in, not to mention the morale in the dressing room we'd probably have been pumped. Then he'd probably have come out with the tired old "i thought we were fantastic ...cant fault the players one bit nonsense" and embarassed us even more....finishing off with the classic arrogant * statement of......" i dont have to explain any of my decisions to anyone."

i lost all respect for him after THAT statement

Didn't intend to fan the flames mmmikey :icon_mrgreen:

You're correct of course, yes he did take us further than anyone else had in a long time. I was simply pointing out that he was no genius in Europe. I wasn't a fan of how we played and at times it was cringeworthy.

All valid points you raised about swashbuckling but there's no need for us to completely lose the head. We can still play an open game without leaving the back door open too much. I think we'll have a far better chance playing an open game than if we sit back and keep it tight. We need to make Dynamo worry more about us than we are about them. Us sitting back will suit them and they'll just ping balls across midfield all night looking for gaps. I'd much rather they were made to sit back and work hard than the other way around.

It's about time we got this * CL away game hoodoo over and done with once and for all....and yes people, I do know it's a qualifier!

Haha yes we all feel this pain. The only thing I disagree with though is I personally don't think anything Strachan done in Europe was cringeworthy. When he made changes I could always see the reasoning behind it. Sure we were never gung-ho but against the bigger sides we rarely have much of a chance. This is more circumstance of being in the SPL rather than manager ineptitude. Artmedia aside, Strachan tended to do admirably against the good Euro sides - the match that went to the second half of extra time only for Kaka to score a wonder goal is a case in point.

It was difficult to watch because we're not used to being vast underdogs. I think Strachans tactics reflected this. As people have mentioned, if we fight the continental technical style with continental technical style then we will get gubbed. What we need to do in Moscow is keep the ball, and I'm sure that's the style that Strachan would've went for himself. Whether Mowbray can acheive that considering the circumstances remains to be seen.

Strachan will always get pelters from some sections of the support, thats just the way it is. Mowbray has the 'Celtic Man' thing to keep the snipers at bay, for a while at least. Different men and they've had differing relationships with the support so it's no wonder one's afforded more respect than the other. All that matters is the fans get behind whoever is in charge and lets try and stop the filth from the south of the city claiming any superiority over our good selves.

    I agree

To be fair on Mowbray it is his first time experience managing a big club in Europe but he will have to learn fast that you must get the mix of attack and defence finely balanced if you want to taste success in the CL.

Strachan achieved that to a degree in the CL but it was not pretty to watch but effective nevertheless.

We can still pull this Dinamo game out of the fire but it will require a complete rethink by TM on our personnel and tactics for the game.

4-5-1 is the way to go IMHO for this return leg with big MAF as the lone striker for his brute strength and pace.
