Nah GS didn't spend anywhere near what MON spent.

Remember, transfer fees are only one part of the picture - player wages are the most important spend, beacuse they are ongoing - and Gordon absolutely slashed our wages bill.

I think around £4m and 40% of player sales, I don't think the board give enough, Desmond is a billionaire and we have the some of the shittiest players in Scotland like Killen, McCourt and Mizuno who will never be a good player cause he is too light weight.

Bhoys and Ghirls i just heard an astounding story, a friend of my family who is very close to Own Coyle, just told me that Owen was ready to shake hands on a deal and asked how much was in the Kitty for transfares and was told there was NADA. FCK all that he would have to bring the wage bill down, at which point he said thanks but NO thanks i'll stick where I am. this person is a reliable source and i dont post here often as i don't like all the * thats mutted on here.

    hail, hail,

To be honest on the basis of his time in right-wing politics I would believe Tony Adams' predictions about the Celtic job sooner than I'd believe a single word out of John Reid's mouth :p

I'm not sure what quote you are referring to KennyDal but this is taken from the previous interim financial statements that were released in February:
So all of this basically sounds like a warning not to expect too much expenditure in the coming season for new players.

Including the transfer budget from Januaryat least 10 million.
What ever we spend it will be more than anybody else in the SPL.

I dont think money is the real issue, its getting quality players that want to play in the SPL without turning them into a soldier of fortune to get them here.

If Celtic believe the player is worth the money, they'll shell it out e.g. Brown

But if they dont they'll stick to their evaluation e.g. Tamas

before i get ripped for saying this but i think the new manager will need between 15-20 million to sort out that team tbh! there are players leaveing and some of them will need replaced but i dont think he will get anywhere near this amount:54: i guess im reaching a bit too far here lol.

Thats a shout, I was going to say 10million plus sales but even 50% would do me fine to be honest :50:

I agree with the fact that its not the amount as much as what you get because look at 12 mill for flo when we had sutton and hartson for the same money so its what the manager wants in players ballanced against what the club are willing to pay in fees and wages . what we want / need more than anything is value for what money we do spend .

    What about Steven Fletcher?

The compensation which could prevent us from getting Mogga?

If the board think its good financially for them they will buy or pay out, not necessarily if its a good talent or personel.

As for the question, I would hope to see about £12million. Although I think we will be well short of that.

Judging by my view of things from outside the boardroom, I don't think Celtic operates with a set player budget for the year at all - I think the amount we shell out on depends very much on the value we're getting.

To give an extreme example, say we've been in for an attacking midfielder, but had to pull out because his transfer fee + 4 years wages was coming in around 10 million, and we can only afford 8 million. Then we find out that Lionel Messi has always dreamed of pulling on the Hoops, and has instructed his agent to make enquiries. Suddenly the whole situation changes. Having Messi at the club means an extra 5M a year in advertising revenues, so we can afford an extra 20M in wages over the contract. We find he has a 50M buy-out clause - but his market value is 100M. Suddenly we can afford a 78 million contract, where we couldn't afford an 8 million one - because we know we can make back the money we would have to borrow to do the deal.

Silly example, sure, but on a smaller scale these are the decisions that are being made continually. If the value is there, the money will be made available.

Problem is, the value is very rarely there, because we would have to offer quality players over the odds just to persuade them to come to the SPL.

I think it will take at least 10m to rebuild that team.
